Slowly, he pushed himself up, offering her a hand.
She took it, rising unsteadily. Their fingers brushed — another spark.
“Training’s over,” he said quietly.
Aria nodded, not trusting her voice.
He turned away, rain still falling hard around them, washing mud and tension into the earth. The yard emptied as the warriors retreated to shelter. Aria lingered, watching his retreating back, her chest aching with things she couldn’t name.
By the time she returned to her quarters, the storm had broken into full force. Lightning streaked across the sky, thunder shaking the walls. Aria sank onto her bed, dripping wet, her hands trembling.
