She wanted blood to spill. But something held her back. "Stay down." It whispered to her from behind her. "This isn't the time to fight back. Stay down." Before she could turn around to see who it was, the light went off and everything went black.

Look back and see that I’m the only thing in this world that won't let you fall. She didn't look back. She took a shuddering breath and hurried her pace almost breaking into a jog. I still kept the distance cause I was a predator who knew exactly how much pressure to apply before the prey snapped. Every time she glanced over her shoulder, I was already gone, tucked behind a pillar or dissolved into the darkness. I was a master of this game because I had been playing it in my head since the day she left.

She turned to show her back and close her eyes in anticipation. Shifting on her toes, she saw him raise his hands in the air and turned away only for a cold voice to interrupt them. “I'll take it on her behalf.”

After she turned to me and smiled. "Okay" she said with a smile. She looked behind me and suddenly had a horrified expression. "What's that!?" she said in a horrified tone, looking at something behind me. I turned around to see what she was talking about. Not seeing anything, my eyes widened and I quickly turned back around. I was shocked and could not comprehend how I could be such an idiot as to turn around. I couldn't move. My mouth literally hung open and I was just to stunned to really believe that just happened. Did she just do that? She stole my cab. That thief!

She takes one step forward. I turn. She calls again. I run.

“Maisie, don’t leave. Just one last round. One last round, okay? “This time, I’ll bet my entire net worth. Are you in or not?” Since it was the final round, simply winning back what she’d lost wasn’t enough. She needed to clean me out of every chip I had if she wanted to vent the hatred burning in her chest. “Mom, Dad, give me all your bank cards! “And the house deed!” Taylor shouted at my aunt and uncle.
