I also started the chapter one on the novel I’m working since I’ve finished the outline already. I want to focus on that next time as my readers keeps on asking me if I’m planning to publish a new novel again.

All thanks to that, I felt energetic and ready to write again. I turned on my computer and wanted to get back to work but I suddenly felt like there’s something missing in my story. I thought that I already created the line of events to help me go on with my story but instantly I found it boring, like something didn’t add up. There was no spark. No matter how many flowery words I’d used to describe the scene I found it… empty. I wrote about three hundred versions of the first paragraph constantly deleting and rewriting it. Afterwards I spend an hour on staring at a blank page hopelessly, only to surrender and search for help on writers’ chatroom again.

The inciting incident is a trigger. So don't start your story with an ordinary morning when your main character was eight and heard the wisest line they ever got from their grandpa that influenced their whole life, and then jump to "ten years later" because that line didn't set the story. It was one of the things that made your character into who they are ten years later.

Clara heard the difference. On the first day they worked on the opening sections. The new paragraphs — the ones Anya had rewritten in the garden in March — were right, Clara confirmed, in the way that Margaret had been the first to say they were right. But there was still, even in the new version, a place in the third paragraph where the old habit surfaced. A single sentence that reached for the general where the specific was needed. I just don't want to leave this story with holes or without a satisfactory epilogue. I'm a pantser, you see. When I start writing a story, I do it without a clear vision of how the story will end. Very often, I deviate from my initial ideas. It's a blessing and a curse, of course, but it's who I am. This is why one day you get one chapter and the next, two. With this being said...
