“You need to make sure you keep an eye on it every day, and as soon as it hatches, you need to bring it back here and let it fly away. But before you do that, I need you to make a note of what type of butterfly it is.”
I dug around in my backpack and pulled out a small field guide to British butterflies.
“Here,” I said handing it to her, “you’ll be able to find it in here.”
She took the book off me, looking through it like it was the most precious gift in the world.
“I’m going to go and put it in my room,” she said, picking up the container gently.
“Wait, does that mean you’ve moved in?”
“Yes, some of us moved in yesterday. Others are coming next week.”
