I poked my head in and saw her and Smith snuggled on the couch together. “Hey, love birds, dinner’s ready” I winked at Smith and then went in search of my father. He wasn’t in the hall and wasn’t outside. I eventually found him in the library, reading a big blue book. Dad isn’t usually a big reader, so I was a bit surprised. “Hey Dad” I called from the door, “What’s up son?” he said looking up at me, “Dinner’s ready” “Thanks, buddy”. I stepped through the door and walked over to where he was sitting.

He’s been there for a while. He still hasn't learnt how to treat his guests.”

Pushing the large posh door asides, my eyes roamed around the room, trying to find my old man. “Where is he?” came a silent whisper from me. His scent is faint, so I can't pinpoint his location. I'm still wondering about his whereabouts, I moved further into the room. My old man undeniably loves books, I thought, going over to the mini library. They were countless books in the shelves. Mostly, the books were about ancient history and weird practices. I held no interest in them, but the hard book covers also captivated me. Out of curiosity, I picked out one—it's a bit heavier than normal, but the designs were eye-catching. Immersed in examining it, I never realized my dad's presence.

My dad smiled softly at me; “Thanks for understanding. It will all be sorted out soon… But we should get to your room now. You must be feeling tired.” “Ok,” I replied, getting up, “but can I borrow this book?” I asked, holding up the text. “Yeah of course.” My dad answered. I took the book as I followed my dad. We retraced our steps back to the stairs and this time, we did go up. At the top of the staircase was a long stretch of wall lined with numerous pictures. A few were of my dad. There were also some of Emily at different stages of her life. I was feeling bittersweet seeing her pictures. I had to remind myself that this was now my home, and my father loved me too.

Oh and I'm an intersex. I can't believe dad is actually married. It's not that I'm not happy for him, I am really.Its the fact that he didn't tell me nor invite me.
