The cliff dropped off just ahead, straight into the churning sea, white foam boiling at its edge like the ocean was already hungry.
They bound my wrists with white silk, making it right. The knot lay over my pulse, and I imagined he could already feel it beating.
Salt wind caught my veil, pulling it behind me like wings. I didn’t resist.
A horn blew low and endless around me. Then the drums rose into a frenzy. The chants reached a fever pitch. I didn’t understand the words, but I felt them. I felt the old, sea magic. It felt ancient and alive.
