Where To Start Reading Comics Marvel Novels & Stories

“Marvel or DC?” I look to my left. A kid around my age, chubby, glasses, short hair. “What?” I responded. He points at my Spider-man comic. “I think DC has better characters and tells better stories.” He says. I stay quiet and just stare at him. “You don’t talk much do you?” I take a moment to say something. “I’m more of a Marvel fan. Mostly because of Spider-man. He’s cool.” I say. “He is cool. Okay next question. Who would win in a race, Flash or Quicksilver?”

She packed the duplicates in a storage bin and put them in her office. I smirked when she was looking at my copy of Ironman, reading the back of the disk at the summary. “This is the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” I explained. “Remember when I said I would show you some movies? This is the first one I wanted you to watch.” “Okay, what is it about?” She asked. “The guy on the front looks familiar. Is this the Iron Man?”

She had to admit she was curious what he was like in his natural habitat as opposed to when he was putting on airs too. “Yes but I’m a comic fan in general. Marvel, DC, Dark Horse…whatever’s good. For most of my life I couldn’t be bothered to read if it wasn’t a comic book or graphic novel but that changed in college,” Mark said with a shrug. That was surprising. She supposed she had thought he was a fan of the Marvel movies and nothing else. There were a lot of fans whose sole exposure was through the rather comprehensive cinematic universe. He was old school if he read a wide variety of the comics that inspired them.

I smiled, and he quirked his brow at me. “No wonder you are good at kicking butts,” He teased, and I rolled my eyes at him. He dropped the comic back on the table, I think the one he was holding was Thor versus Hercules, one of my favorite collections of Marvel's comics. Kayden observed all the stuff on my table and when his gaze fell on the picture of my younger self, he grinned and picked it up immediately. “I'm certain, this is you,” He smirked, and my cheeks turned pink.

Gratefully, it worked; her annoyance immediately disappeared like a bubble when she vanished within the pages of her book. Comic books had that power on her. It was a way to escape the suffocating and disappointing reality that she had grew up with. With comic books, she felt safe and secured; she felt understood. She started reading when she and her parents went to Times Square for a quick dinner. A vast building with glowing lights and attractive, colorful posters of characters grabbed her attention—the Midtown Comics. Bright eyes always held a twinkle of mischief in them. “What do you want to watch?” I asked, trying to unveil his plan. “Underworld? A Werewolf in London? The Howling?” “I’m sensing a theme.” Gunnar’s motive seemed transparent. Jump scares would lead to cuddling, and I wasn’t ready to move beyond friendship. “How about we stick to Marvel? I’ve never watched them all chronologically.” “That’s thirty-four guaranteed dates! Hell, yeah.” His excitement made me smile. We all turned to him collectively before he cleared his throat and continued, “I was an attentive collector of the properties of superhero stories.” “...So you collected comic books?” Urkstin asked, making Liam turn his head away from us before nodding nervously. “Oh, that’s cool!” Akira complimented, making Liam turn back in surprise, “How much do you have?” “I…” He said, before returning to his uptight and overly explanatory tone, “I have collected all series in the marvel comic universe ever from 1939 to the present day.”

The one I got for my birthday that I haven't touched until now, a very thick book might I add, filled up in less than three weeks. I decided to draw all the Marvel characters that I wanted to like Ironman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Black widow, and Black Panther. I also did a detailed drawing of my ring. I can't get over it. I did a drawing of the reveal of our wedding picture. Like when he first saw me. I love that picture. If I were to look back on that picture when I was suffering from dementia I would think it's real. I did other things too. Like one page is my 'warm up page'. The whole cast is—” “Amazeballs?” he teased. “I was going to say awesomesauce, thank you very much.” He chuckled and turned his attention back to the TV. “DC or Marvel?” “DC.” “Nope. It’s Marvel all the way.” “You’re wrong.” I grabbed another chip and broke it in half. “The Marvel movies are way better.” “I’ll give you that, but if we’re comparing actual cannon, like the comics and stories, then DC wins hands down.”
