-Jerome Her cheeks flushed, and her heartbeat stumbled into a quickened rhythm. A wave of panic surged through her, though it was laced with a joy she could barely contain. She turned to Mylene, lips parted in silent plea, her chest feeling as though it might burst. With a subtle gesture, she beckoned her secretary closer. Within seconds, Mylene was at her side. “How did he get my number?” she whispered, still breathless, the flutter in her stomach refusing to settle.

One heartbeat is very faint, almost like it's dying , then the whimper comes again . The pain in that whimper is unmistakable , the sound of a whip hitting flesh has my stopping in my tracks , my own heart starts hammering in my chest as memories of my past come crashing into my mind . Closing my eyes I concentrate on calming my own heartbeat before I edge my way closer to the room that the noise is coming from . At first all I can see is a figure standing in black robes , a female as too short to be a male . Creeping closer I notice there is what looks like a large stone table sitting in the middle . As the robed figure draws their arm back with a black leather whip with three tails secure

Yet even in the aftermath — in the silence left by destruction — whispers persisted. Whispers that the fire had been no accident. Whispers that someone had wanted something silenced. Whispers that one day, long after the ashes cooled and Ashford Hollow resumed its careful routine, the truth would rise like smoke against a clear sky. I stay out on the balcony, just watching the stars twinkle in the sky while surrounding the moon. I stay outside for a little longer before heading back in and picking up my novel instead of my study books. I get so lost in the pages that I don’t hear the door open or the person who steps over and then behind me. I jump a little as two arms wrap around me and a male whispers into my ear, “Do you think we could try that one day?”
