“Why did you agree to this marriage?”
His brows furrow slightly. “I thought we’ve already been over this.”
“No,” I say. “I mean really. Why me? You could’ve had anyone. So why pick me?”
For the first time, he looks genuinely caught off guard. Then, his lips twitch into a small smile. “Why not you?”
I narrow my eyes. “That’s not an answer.”
He exhales, stepping closer. “Stephanie, I didn’t want to marry just anyone. I wanted someone who could match me. Someone who wouldn’t be a burden, someone with their own ambitions. Whether you want to admit it or not, you’re exactly that.”
