Chapter 3: The Alpha's Possession** --- Damon's dark eyes fell on her, and he could feel her trembling beneath his gaze. His eyes never left her until she exited the courtyard. Damon’s smirk was replaced with a grim expression as he turned to his right-hand man, Alfred. "Take her body to my pets in the dungeon," Damon ordered, and Alfred quickly obliged. Alfred, who had served the Alpha as his Beta and right-hand man, wasted no time passing the instructions to the guards. Something told him his Alpha was in a bad mood, and irritating him further was not the wisest choice—unless he had plans of ending up six feet under.

“I was a lone wolf and was attacked a couple of weeks ago. Since then, nothing felt right, like I wasn’t in my own body. I had no idea where I was, only vaguely aware of what was going on around me. All I could do was follow the instructions that were given to me.” I growled low. “What instruction?” He ducked his head, looking almost confused and then ashamed. “We attacked to capture someone. Some girl named Claire Baines.”

I tasted copper and bile and something cold dropped into my stomach. “If you don’t cooperate,” he said, voice calm and empty, “I will kill him. And I will still use you to get Leon.” The sentence landed like a verdict. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t breathe. I watched Jasper’s shoulders as they disappeared out the door. He was shouting; the words were muffled by distance. My hands trembled so hard I couldn’t hold them steady. Thiago stood in the middle of my living room, breathing slowly, looking like a man who had closed a contract and was waiting for signatures. His eyes met mine and there was no apology in them. David took a deep breath, “the car hit on his side. If the two of you hadn’t been buckled up I don’t think you would be here. The car is totaled.” I swallowed, “but is he ok?” David shrugged, “I don’t know Taylor he has been unresponsive.
