Thirty minutes passed, and Avery was still on the road. The dim headlights of her car illuminated the path ahead as she drove. The moon had emerged, and she knew her father must be consumed with worry about her whereabouts.
She reached for her phone, intending to call her father, but after several unsuccessful attempts, she gave up and placed the phone in the passenger seat. Glancing frequently at the rearview mirror, she ensured she wasn't being followed by the vampires. She refused to end up in the same state as the vampire she had encountered that fateful night.
