Henry sat in front of him, small and bright-eyed, gripping a wooden toy with the determination of someone who believed it was the most important object in the world. William noticed me almost instantly. His expression changed the moment he saw me. Softened. Like it always did now. “There she is,” he said quietly. Henry immediately turned and reached for me. I crossed the room and lifted him into my arms without hesitation, pressing a kiss to his soft hair. William sighed dramatically. “I see where I rank.” “Very low,” I said lightly. “Unacceptable.” Henry grabbed a fistful of my hair as if to prove his loyalty. William pointed at him. “You see? No respect in this household.”

Otherwise, Grandma wouldn't have allowed him to continue with his research. For that reason, William also assumed whatever drugs Henry had administered to Julianne were a fluke.
