The Alpha Who Broke Me
The barrier shimmers between us, and when I reach out to touch it, I feel that same strange sensation from the portal, coolness that isn't quite wet, resistance that isn't quite solid.
"Lewis, Talia," I call without looking away from the barrier. "Help me break this thing."
They rush over, Lewis immediately examining the shimmering surface. "It's some kind of magical construct. I don't know if we can—"
"We can." I press both hands against it, and something inside me responds. A warmth spreads from my palms into the barrier, and I watch as tiny cracks appear in its surface.
Mom stares at me through the weakening shield. "Kaia, how are you...?"
