The Purrfect Wingman
Nova, the smaller orange tiger, was pressed up against Zach’s shoulder like a heating pad with teeth, trying to nurse from the cotton.
My breath caught in my throat.
They must’ve squirmed away from Spitfire in the night. It wasn’t far—maybe a foot or two—but for babies that small, it was like crossing a continent. And somehow, they’d ended up on Zach. Climbing Mount Firefighter like he was part of the landscape.
He didn’t even stir. Just kept breathing slow and steady, his dark lashes fanned across his cheek, the faintest furrow between his brows like his body refused to relax all the way, even in sleep.
