Winter felt a sudden heat on her forehead. She wanted to raise her hand and rub it, but in the next second, Chris had already released her waist and locked his large hand firmly around hers. Her hand was ice-cold. His was warm. “One, two, three!” The instant Winter’s body was thrown upward by the force of Chris’s arm, the warmth gripping her hand disappeared. Chris let go. Winter was thrown toward the edge of the woods on the opposite side. She grabbed the hanging vines with all her strength, bit down on the gun, and climbed up with both hands and feet.

Sleep didn’t come easily anymore. When I finally pulled away the blanket and stood, my legs felt half-frozen. The cabin was quiet, but I could sense the pack outside—silent and sharp-eyed. Watching. [Unknown Forest Location, Twilight, Hours Later] Winter woke to the smell of damp earth and burning cedar. Her head throbbed dully, and her body felt like it had been wrung out and left to dry. I decide to take a look out the window to distract myself. There are just rocks everywhere, people with serious faces and dark clothes. And it takes a while for me to see the first tree. It multiplies in the following meters, forming a type of forest. The air is even cooler here, although I can see ice everywhere.
