I read the book that afternoon. Or started it, got forty pages in, sitting in the living room while Lily napped and Ethan worked at the kitchen island and the Sunday light went gold and low through the windows. It was exactly what he'd said. It cost something. It was the kind of book that reached into you and rearranged things without asking permission, the kind that made the world feel both heavier and more worth carrying when you put it down. I understood why he'd kept it, I understood why he'd given it away.

The morning broke with a brittle chill, the kind of cold that settled deep beneath the skin and made every breath sharp and fleeting. Frost coated the pine needles and the earth, glittering faintly under the pale light of a winter sun struggling to rise. I stood at the edge of Ashfang camp, my wolf Nyx restless beneath the surface, sensing the tension that clung to the forest like a suffocating shroud. Ahead of me stretched the wild, tangled maze of Frostwillow — a land both beautiful and dangerous, where twisted trees loomed like dark sentinels and ancient shadows whispered of things best left forgotten.

No one has found the bodies yet, though, so theres still a lingering hope out there that they're alive. I sigh as I crawl under the thick quilt, flicking on the lamo beside me as I pull out my latest find at Barnes and Nobels: The Winter Garden by the famous Kristin Hannah. This woman's books are truly amazing. Then, after an hour long reading session, I find my eyes beginning to shut against my will, so I set down the book on the bedside table and shut off the lamp. ~ The next morning...

After figuring out what had happened, Jaxson began to tell what had happened. Lyca is standing in the back and listening to Jaxson in silence. Lyca's face gets paler as the story goes on. (No one but Albert would be brave enough to go into the dark forest.) Snow said to herself as she sweated and tightened her fists. "What are we going to do, Xavier? It's unlikely that whoever planned this got in touch with Wesley." As soon as Jaxson was done telling the story, Kai said. "Let's not jump to a conclusion... Let's find Wesley first, "Xavier said something as he looked around at everyone, and then he looked at Jaxson. He asked, "Do you feel better now?"

~ DAMON’S POV ~ The wind had changed again. It carried the smell of snow and wood smoke, sharp enough to make your chest ache when you breathed too deep. Winter was coming fast, faster than anyone here had planned for. I stood near the edge of the half-built wall, my hands raw from lifting stones. Around me, the villagers worked in silence, their movements slow but steady. Every hammer strike echoed through the valley. Jax dropped a pile of timber beside me. “You ever notice how winter always feels like it’s watching us?”

Oragon and Gabriel followed at a slower pace, their eyes scanning the trees out of habit, though I knew they were letting themselves relax just a little. I breathed deeply, feeling the cool morning air fill my lungs. My hands instinctively tightened around the book. Even after everything, it felt like a part of me now—a weight, yes, but also a comfort. “I never thought I’d survive something like that,” I admitted quietly, speaking more to myself than anyone. Fenrir glanced at me. “Survival is often the first lesson.” I smiled weakly. “And I’m learning fast.” Winter appeared at my side, cheeks flushed with excitement. “Mother, did you see how the shadows reacted to the book? You were… glowing

Yes… If I could just reach it… The back doors flew open. “There you are, you sneaky bitch.” I froze. A tall, thin man stood in the doorway. My eyes immediately dropped to the leather cut covering his chest. Wild Ridge. My stomach twisted. No… That couldn’t be right. Either he belonged to the club… Or he’d stolen the cut. He climbed inside and crouched beside me. Before I could pull away, his fist tangled in my hair. I cried out as he yanked me toward him. “Lightfoot’s been looking all over for you,” he sneered. “Wonder how happy he’ll be when I hand over his little hacker whore.”

Nicole made sure to keep her distance well enough to be hidden amongst the individuals that traversed the road, she moved closely along the edges of the buildings trying to conceal her presence. It was a cold morning and it had been that way for the past few days, owing to the fact that winter was as close as ever although it had not began to snow. After walking down the side walks for a few minutes, the man took a turn into an avenue and this time it was an open street with few individuals and Nicole blindly making the turn would only give her away.

I wandered through the compound until I found myself in the library, as usual. I browsed the shelves for a while before pulling out a thick book about the northern territories. The book was old, the pages yellowed and crinkled with age, but the hand-drawn illustrations were still beautiful. I got comfortable in one of the chairs near a window and began to read. Most of the content was about trade routes and pack histories, but one chapter caught my attention. It described the far northern mountains—the ones beyond the Thornwood, where no one ever set foot.
