Tainted Whispers
"I suppose when you spend your life following orders like a well-trained dog, the concept of a woman having an opinion must be quite shocking for you. Or perhaps you’re just confused because no one has ever asked for your consent in anything?"
The table went silent. The captain’s face turned a brilliant shade of red. Beside her, she felt a shift in Victor. She didn't look at him, but she saw the corner of his mouth twitch, a tiny, microscopic smirk that he vanished as quickly as it appeared.
"Careful, little girl," the captain hissed.
"I’m quite careful," she countered, leaning back despite the agony in her ribs. "You, however, seem to be confusing your rank with your relevance."
