“Cocaine, Sky. Imagine walking into a pharmacy and being like, ‘Excuse me, I’m bleeding from my uterus,’ and the doctor just hands you a packet of coke. Like, what a time to be alive.”
I laughed, shaking my head. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And don’t even get me started on how pads used to be reusable cloth. Women just… washed them. By hand. Imagine scrubbing that out in front of your neighbor like, ‘Oh, don’t mind me, just rinsing the fabric of my oppression.’”
Her delivery was so dramatic, so deadpan, that I burst out laughing again, even as another cramp clawed at my stomach. I doubled over, not sure if I was clutching my belly from pain or from trying to hold in my laughter.
