Seeing this, Karina finally let out a breath of relief. She walked over carefully, crouched beside the girl, and softly asked, “Are you okay?” The girl’s body tensed at the sound of Karina’s voice. Slowly, she lifted her tear-streaked face, her red, swollen eyes resembling overripe peaches. Upon realizing it was Karina and Wilfred, she froze momentarily before turning her head away. Her voice was thick with sobs as she muttered, “Why are you here? Are you here to laugh at me?”

“Don't ugly cry. That won't sell." The girl turns, bends and touches her toes. I get the feeling this isn't the first time they've done this but there's still a collective gasp at the sound of the first paddle stroke. The girl, to her credit, doesn't make a sound though. She jumps with each stroke, the soldier having to hold onto her before she falls over. When it's over, she is allowed to straighten, her face red as she faces us, eyes watery, knees wobbly.

The beautiful girl kept crying. The moment she saw the gun she shrieked and closed her eyes. “Please, please, please, don’t. Why are you doing this?” she cried. “Stop this! I followed the sound, carefully, the echo of quiet sobs guiding me through the corridor. At the end of the hall, curled up by one of the benches, was a little girl clutching a worn-out stuffed toy to her chest. Her tiny shoulders shook with every hiccup. “Hey,” I said softly, crouching a few feet away so I wouldn’t scare her. “Why’re you crying, sweetheart?” She sniffled, lifting her face — streaked with tears and dirt — and hugged the toy tighter like it was her shield. “It broke,” she whispered, voice cracking. “Bunny’s ear came off.”

Georgia laughed while crying. She then went to the bathroom and took a shower while crying. She cried so hard while the water was pouring into her body and face. She looked up, eyes were closed. ‘Goodbye, Adam. And now, I am going to promise myself. No men for real. I don’t want to experience this again. Whenever I fall hard to a man, I always experience this.’ Georgia thought.
