The Third World War began on August fifteenth, 2030. It only lasted three days. It was a war that ended with twenty-thousand nuclear warheads and a burning Earth. With over one billion fatalities, the Third World War was labelled the largest global catastrophe since the extinction of the dinosaurs. Another hundred million more died soon after, victims of the swift and deadly killer that was radiation sickness. Worldwide infrastructure failed in less than a day-everything from microchips to national power grids were fried by the blasts.

She looks towards the familiar face. Elora is dressed in a light yellow maxi till her knees. "What has got you so lost, Muffin?" I browsed the shelves, and I read the titles. Michael asked, Alissa ventured further into the shop, she saw the sign for 'History'. Alissa turned into the area and scanned the spines. There appeared to have been two human world wars as that topic featured heavily. She picked one of the larger books up, scanning the back. Michael saw what she was looking at. “If you're looking for fighting techniques that won't help, they used their guns and planes.” Alissa mouthed the words back. “Don't ask,” he responded. “I'm looking to know more about...” Alissa waved in the general vicinity. Michael tapped at his chin and started looking at the books.

Why is everyone carrying rifles? The idea of there being an invisible enemy out there, one I don't know about yet, makes me want to throw up. My life has been turned upside down already. What else is happening in our strange world that no one has informed me of yet? My knowledge of the world isn't enough, but so far, I know world war three happened, that food and electricity are a rarity these days, shampoo is apparently a luxury... But why are people choosing to live among cruel men?

Don shows the ashes to his friend. Mordecai crouch, tap his goggles and study the ashes then whistle. "Wow, that's some serious shit." "What is it?" I bend down to look at the signalling machine for faults. “X? Is that normal?” I turn around to see what he’s talking about, probably the black hole they have contained in the centre of the system. I was totally wrong. The first post was totally wrecked, and the rampage of what ever did this stretched as far as my eyes could see. Whole battle planets were reduced to chunks. I saw the trail of destruction was headed towards Le’uthara. “Ko'vren, forget the docking, head to Le’uthara... now!” The enemy had begun attacking again, this time on a higher scale. This was all out war. Someone decided to pick a fight with the Gentry. And by Fos, they were winning.

I like taking my time, that way, I can get used to the idea of living with Xander. Sitting behind the counter in the bookstore, I listen to Vincent talking to his cars while I place an order for new books. One of those books is The Art of War by Sun Tsu. I want to read it and see why Alexei loves it so much. My thoughts turn to the BBQ, and I must admit, I enjoyed it a lot. And Rosemarie was right. Everyone seemed pretty normal. I don’t know what I expected. Maybe guns and men smoking cigars while plotting the end of the world?
