I replied, my voice steady.
"Am I correct in understanding that the perpetrator was your lover?" The man's voice dripped with judgment.
"No, he was my mate, but I rejected..." I started to explain, but was swiftly interrupted.
"Once again, Miss Lightwood, you fail to provide the appropriate response," he interjected sharply.
