A person's writing reflects the person herself, for one's writing mirrors her inner character. He'd been looking at people's writings his entire life, so he knew that this person before him was someone remarkable when he saw her writing.

Immaturity or madness? "It's not anyone's fault that you write horrible books. The book was good at the beginning, but you lost the hang of it afterward, and everything was messed up. Was it anyone's fault that your writing is horrible? You should work on your skill or whatever you call it, and stop coming here to cause trouble like a nuisance," The senior editor, Joy screams at her angrily, and fuck! I recognized them as part of the creative writing club. "Lila," one of them said. "We wanted to talk to you about your writing." "Please just leave me alone," I said. "No, we are not here to judge you," another girl said quickly. "We actually think your writing is impressive. The character development, the emotional depth, the prose. It is really good." I looked at them suspiciously. "Are you making fun of me?" "Not at all," the first girl insisted. "We read the excerpts that got posted. Obviously the subject matter is controversial. But the actual craft of the writing is solid. Better than most published romance novels we have read."

I said. "It's never just a prompt." He said it gently. No pressure behind it, just a fact, the way he delivered most things. "The best writing always comes from the thing the writer is actually living." I looked at my hands. "Are you okay?" he asked. Two words. Simple. The same two words Rhys had said outside the gym last week and somehow they landed completely differently from the same distance. Where Rhys's version had felt like a hand reaching through something, Mr. Vance's version felt like a door being left open. Warm. Safe. The kind of okay that had room in it.
