She wasn’t aware of Noah’s gaze either. She only snapped back to reality when she heard the heavy footsteps approaching. Everyone on the portico turned to look at the gate swinging open to reveal at least a dozen knights. They approached the portico and bowed in courtesy before the Alpha. Noah recognized the man taking the lead. It was the knight he bumped into the other day in the arena. Ryan Grant. It was only now that Noah realized that Ryan was the Captain of the pack’s elite knight force. He figured from the dark navy uniform embroidered with golden threads at the cuffs and collar. He had five stars attached to his breast pocket, unlike the others who had four and some even two.

George stared longingly into Anthony's tired green eyes. "I will one day. And I'm going to be your trusty knight, my highness. I promise," Anthony smiled assuringly. "I don't break promises." George nodded, accepting that as an answer. Before letting go of the future knight's hand, he stood on his tiptoes to kiss Anthony's cheek softly. "I'll see you tonight." Anthony hummed his response and tore his hand away. He grabbed his sticks and gave George one last tender smile, before running off. "I'm here, master!"

“And breech babies can be turned, can’t they?” Knight blushed when he found me gawking at him. "He'll see you now." I walked into Mr. Knight's office, trying to exude the same confidence I had shown at the reception. He stood up from behind his desk and greeted me warmly. "Finally, I've met the woman who has stolen my son's heart," he said with a smile. "Nice to meet you too, sir," I replied, shaking his hand. "Please, call me by my first name Santiago," he insisted, his demeanour friendly and welcoming. This surprised me. Mr. Knight seemed to be a genuinely nice person, quite unlike his wife, who had treated me like trash the first time she saw me.

“Every staff member, regardless of the gender, who’s dared to storm into my room while I’m undressed hasn’t lived to see the next day.” I let out a chuckle. “So what? Are you going to kill me?” He grinned, the corners of his lips curling wickedly. “No. But I might make your life miserable.” My heart pounded. “Mr Knight, you’re insane.” “And yet, you’re still here.” For a moment, neither of us moved. His gaze flickered to my lips, and I felt the heat between us intensify. Then, as if sensing my rising fear, he pulled away, leaving me breathless.

I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand, trying not to cry. "I need to help Dad," I whispered. But how? Before I could think too much, there was a knock on my door. I ran out of the bathroom, wiping my face quickly and stuffed the phone back in the bag. "Come in," I said, opening the door. Standing in front of me was a man I had only seen in pictures and from a distance. Mr. Knight. He was tall. He looked strong and well-dressed, like those men in movies who always get what they want. His smile was soft, but I didn’t trust it. I didn’t like him. This was the man Daddy said stole my Mum away from us.

"Mr. Knight, is it true that you and Miss Sinclair had sexual intercourse one month after she left you at the altar?" "Yes." I replied with a bored voice. Excitement gleamed behind Robert's eyes and a knowing look spread across his face. My eyes flickered with disinterest and I pasted an irritated look upon my face. "Mr. Knight, can you inform the court, did you or did you not pay Miss Sinclair $500 afterwards?" I blanched in dismay. It was like he had stuck a knife into my chest and twisted the blade. My eyes flew to Victory, her face had paled and there was a pained look flashing in her eyes as she turned, removing her gaze away from mine.

I didn’t even sit close to him. I was simply responding to the question his guest was asking me. Emphasis on ‘his’. So why had Mr. Knight sounded so… irritated? Or was it anger I saw in his eyes? I shifted, trying to balance my weight and sighed. Some people were ridiculously weird for no reason, no matter how much money they had. And Mr. Knight was a definite example. And what was that hard copy nonsense? I shook my head trying to hold in my laugh. What was he even going to do with printed files that could have easily been emailed to him?

Outside the evening air felt colder than expected as the driver opened the car door for me. The ride home was quiet. My phone buzzed repeatedly with emails I ignored while the city lights blurred past the tinted windows. By the time we reached the Knight estate, the sky had already turned gold and dark blue. The mansion stood exactly the way it always did, large, perfect and empty. I stepped inside while the staff greeted me quietly. “Welcome home, Mr. Knight.” I loosened my tie slightly. Before I could continue walking, Xavier's voice suddenly stopped me from behind.

The knowledge made me slightly remorseful about leaving the lunch box on the kitchen counter at home. At that moment, the secretary returned with two security guards. She placed her hands on her hips as she stared down at me, her face filled with disdain. “I just contacted the Knight mansion a few minutes ago,” she told me. “They just confirmed that they didn't send anyone to meet with Mr. Knight. Please leave.” My heart trembled with disbelief when I heard her speak. I slipped my phone into my bag and rose to my feet, standing in front of her face-to-face.
