“We already talked about this. Joe isn’t trying to hurt you. He’s trying to be a father figure to you. Something your biological father clearly failed at.” I stared at her for a second. Then laughed in disbelief. “Mom, are you actually insane?” The slap landed across my face so fast my head jerked sideways. Before she could start yelling again, Joe suddenly appeared beside her, wrapping an arm around her waist like some protective fucking hero. A smirk tugged at his lips while he looked at me. “Hey,” he said softly to her. “It’s okay. Let her calm down.” his eyes raked over my body, his eyes darkening and I immediately knew the thought running through his mind.

Jeremy got a beer, and I got a lemonade that aroused a doubtful look from Jeremy but he remained silent. While waiting for our drinks to arrive, we started talking about our lives. Jeremy specialized in traumatology and managed to do so in record time. He had started school a year earlier and this allowed him to start college when he was still seventeen and to graduate in three years, after that, he went through specialization for five years and was able to get a job as a newly finished attending. I listened to him all the time, elbows resting on the table, hands together and my chin resting on them.

It was just that…As Jeremy scanned Javier, he thought the latter was too freaking young and had to be bluffing. Besides, Grace had just said that she had a boyfriend right before the man had arrived. A thought popped into Jeremy’s head, and he grinned pompously. “F*cking hell, you’re interesting, huh? You overheard us from outside and you’re pretending to be Javier Kersey to try and save the damsel in distress? I think you must have a death wish! “You should ask around who I, Jeremy Teed, am first. Forget about a fake Javier like you. Even if the real one was here, I would not be scared of him given how influential I am in the hospital! He’d still have to get on his knees to beg me!

It was the guy I met in the pack house earlier. “Hey Tori! Remember me? I’m Jeremy, I met you earlier this afternoon.” He was very tall with a swimmers build, but muscular. Short brown hair and light brown eyes and a contagious smile. He was drinking soda from a cup and had a hot dog in the other hand. “Yes, hello Jeremy. How’s it going?” He took a swig of soda and smiled. “Great! I love cookouts! Do you like to dance?” He asked with a hopeful smile.

" He beamed, clapping his hands with excitement. The fuck, I couldn't blame him. Only a jerk ass like brother Silas wouldn't like me. "You have a good one, Jeremy. A beautiful and quite witty woman." He complimented, as we locked eyes, and I quickly looked away. "Well, that's why we go so well together. Jeremy is dashing, smart, athletic, kind, and a good hockey player. He's the best, I'm lucky to have him." I asserted, turning to Jeremy who looked stunned as I took his hand. "He's my lucky gem." I added as we locked eyes. His eyes flickered with something bright, something I had never seen in them.

And it was enough. Just as I started to let myself believe in peace, in softness again… the door slammed open like thunder. I flinched hard, my whole body tensing, and Smith was up in an instant, already half in front of me before I even registered the figure in the doorway. Jeremy. His face was twisted with fury, eyes bloodshot, hair a mess like he hadn’t slept in days. He looked nothing like the guy I once thought I knew. He looked dangerous. And he had a gun.

I know that Melody wouldn't want that, so I tried explaining again. "She drugged Grandpa because someone asked her to. She didn't have a choice. Just like you when Jeremy asks you to do squats." He looked straight at me as if he was starting to get my point. "You know squats are painful but you have to do it because Jeremy asked you to. Do you understand that now?" Jeremy is the new guard I hired for the twins after Felix attacked the pack. Jeremy is a tall and well-built man with unlimited strength and unrivalled stamina.

Callum. With a "Well done, son," Callum addressed Jeremy. "You've brought us quite a prize." With tears in my eyes, I glanced at Jeremy. "Son? What's going on, Jeremy?" Jeremy chuckled. It was a terrible noise. "Darcy, poor little Darcy. Always taking so long to comprehend. I'll explain it to you. I am not your sibling. I never was. My mind was racing. This cannot be taking place. It had to be a nightmare, another vision.

It seems to work well for us. “No need to worry so much about him, boss. Thorn is strong and probably the best fighter I’ve ever seen,” Jeremy says, appearing beside me and making me gasp in surprise. This man can sneak up on you like a ninja. I shake my head and smile at him. “You’ve never seen Tjeck at his best, and haven’t I told you not to call me ‘boss’? It’s just this ridiculous thing Thorn does because he’s impossible.” Jeremy showed up about four months ago, asking to join us. A deserter from the capital, he’s an expert marksman and a genuinely nice guy. He has fit right in, but he’s reluctant to talk about his past.

Sam responded. “Hi, Jeremy, it’s Chan.” Jeremy chuckled, pleased suddenly. “Yes, so, um, how are you?” he asked stupidly. Sam tried to hide his smile at his cousin’s reaction. Surely, this wasn’t the same Jeremy he was so used to. The Jeremy he knew was very comfortable in front of women. The Jeremy he knew was the serial dater who could sweet-talk women into anything and everything. But this one looked like a nervous sixteen-year-old speaking to his first girlfriend. Of course, Sam couldn’t help himself and laughed out loud.
