I had to roll my eyes to not stare at them creepily. Unlike my father, I have never understood the game and its rules nor have I been a fan. Within a few minutes, I found the match dull and got bored so I retrieved my book from the basket. I leaned back against the tree, trying to get into a comfortable position before putting all my attention to reading the original series of Sherlock Holmes. Not even fifteen minutes into reading, I heard a clearing of the throat in front of me. My face immediately contorted into a scowl for being disrupted.

“That, I can help with. Although, I think that if you’ve gone that long without food, maybe we should start light. How about some scrambled eggs. Not with toast, though. That would be too heavy. Just the eggs to start with.” I let my head sink into the pillow. “That sounds like heaven.” She patted my hand before scurrying out of the room. I picked up the large envelope and then set it back down. I knew what it said without reading it. Instead, I opened the small white envelope. It contained a key and a one page note that said:

I knew there was something so I searched desperately for it, there wasn't a painting in the room, just a bookshelf and a plain old wall. Out of all the Sherlock Holmes movies that I had watched and the fact that I was in a Mafia home, I couldn't help but believe that it was the bookshelf that was the secret passage and this meant there was a key. Probably a book on the shelf. But which book? Erotica, romance or Mafia. That wasn't it! Was it? Maybe it was the book in the middle but I pulled that out and it didn't do a thing. None of my thoughts or expertise proved a thing, it was almost like I was worrying too much and at this point, my nerves were all giddy.

I too continued with my reading and was nearly halfway through when Ronan returned. My smile widened when I saw that he had a tray that held scones and doughnuts.

I felt like the greatest detective ever. Who knew, perhaps wen Sherlock Holmes or his sister, Enola Holmes. I laughed even harder before going back to the spot. I stared at the slightly open safe in fear.

"That's sex. Have you ever kissed her? I know that Beth and you are not together anymore, but-" "Sherlie, as far as I am concerned, Elizabeth is my woman. Elizabeth. Not Megan, not anyone else. Elizabeth." "But you said that you didn't want to be her boo thing anymore-" "I want us together. That's what I was getting at." "Well, you sure do have a funny way of putting it." "No shit, Sherlock. I've tried calling her, but she's not picking up. Is she okay?" Sherlie snorted, pinching a small bit off the croissant on her plate and putting it in her mouth.

Dad ruffled my hair, "No comparing to fictional characters, you know that." I grinned. "I know."
