There’s something in his eyes, surprise, maybe, mixed with something I can’t name.
“They’re not new,” I say, my voice quiet but steady enough to hold his attention. My eyes drift down to the top page, locking with the pair of eyes staring back at me from the paper, "These are from years ago.”
“But they look like I’m staring into…” He stops, a little crease forming between his brows as he searches for the word.
“Your own eyes,” I finish for him.
“Yeah.” His gaze stays on me now, his voice low. “Like I’m staring into my own eyes."
