Zack was getting visibly agitated. “Who bought them?” “A man named Dustin Crawford, sir.” Zack’s expression froze at the mention of that name. He quickly reopened his email and scanned through the carbon-copied recipients, searching for Dustin’s name. As far as he knew, Dustin had no other company aside from Crawford Empire, and Thomas had already taken over as its CEO. He scrolled up and down repeatedly, checking every email address—still, no sign of Dustin Crawford. But something caught his eye: a carbon-copied email to the CEO of D.C. Bank Corporation.

He remarked cockily. "So much for modesty," I rolled my eyes and laughed. "But yeah, I'll keep that in mind, though they have no reason to want to sue." He smiled and dug into his food. Zack is a lawyer at one of the biggest firm in Greer, South Carolina and in this state, lawyers were kind of hard to come by. We met in highschool; the normal cliche girl bumping into guy stuff, where we lost contact. Then again in college, where he was a law major and I, an accounting major. Most of our classes clashed, so we saw more of each other. He had a good personality, and a great sense of humor so I thought letting him go would be a waste. Boy, am I glad I didn't.

She simply looked at him, really looked at him, and the anger slowly returned to her silver eyes. “How could you promise her the Luna position?” Zack froze. “Zoe—” She stepped back before he could finish. “No.” Her voice was sharp. “I’m not doing this right now.”

Concrete buildings and skyscrapers littered the area. Almost every one of the biggest companies in Buckwood was situated here. Every inch of the land was as precious as gold.

“Not yet.” “This is Zack we’re talking about,” I said in a low growl. “We already have intel.” “Which would be strong enough if we let him incriminate himself,” Xavier replied as if he was expecting my exact reply. Across the room, Zack sat across from Ray. She didn’t even smile. It was great that she didn’t look impressed either. My ears perked up. “Zack Biko,” Ray said coolly. “For a man who pays for his time, you’re late.”

“And you still have the mood to be here?” Zoe rolled her eyes dramatically. She turned her face away from him as though she could not even be bothered to argue properly. Her arms folded across her chest in clear annoyance. “Tell me,” Pete continued, his voice growing louder with each word. “Didn’t you say your uncle could secure eCloud Tech’s funding? Where’s the money? I haven’t even seen it.” His frustration was obvious. The company was already struggling, and the promised investment from Zoe’s uncle was supposed to stabilize everything.

“You have a law firm too? I thought you were…” I stopped myself before I spoke too much. Based on my experience, a conversation with Zack had a ninety-eight percent chance of going south. However, his amber eyes met mine, a hint of interest flashing in them. “What did you think about me, Ellie?” I answered honestly. “I thought you were an artist. Or someone with a business degree. This law firm is... unexpected.” A small smile appeared on his lips. It softened his face for only a moment. “I own a jewelry business overseas.” Zack said calmly. “And Walton Lux focuses on clothing. So yes. I suppose I'm both an artist and a businessman.”

Nick referred to Zack's own outfit and Zack shrugged in response. Zack's eyes scanned Nick's outfit again, taking in the designer labels and the quality of the materials. "Why the sudden change though?" Zack returned his attention to his work as Nick placed his briefcase on the empty space on the desk, and opening it he brought out some papers and a flash drive. "I work for Zack Vaughn. I had to look like it." Nick said confidently and Zack's nodded his head, impressed. Moving over to the computer on the desk, Nick turned it on and inserted the flash drive before proceeding to open the power point and the two went through the presentation.
