Havermouth, The Present There were no triggers that could be determined from outside, and so they moved to the external doors, weapons held ready, whilst the bomb experts forced the frosted glass doors open. The zombie burst out of the opening. A Van Helsing, his body covered in third degree burns, with bandages just clinging in places, and IV lines dangling from the needles in his veins, he let out a horrible, inhuman, screech.

"Elizabeth, immunity to sickness and fast mending are only a few of the wolf's characteristics. There are others, but the most important one for you is that werewolves are somewhat immortal. Most individuals who decide to modify their appearance do so in their mid-twenties and remain that age for the rest of their life. Being a werewolf brought about some significant changes in your life because you were older. You could probably tell folks you bleached your hair, but there's no hiding the fact that you've shed a significant amount of weight and seem twenty years younger almost overnight." "We knew if you survived, you'd alter so drastically that it couldn't be disguised or explained. There

“If he hasn’t been brainwashed and placed into the training program, then he’s in some alien’s belly. Either way, he’s lost to you.” Kendra’s heart lurched to the point that it practically touched her tonsils while her stomach rolled back and forth within her torso. “I don’t believe you,” she choked out. Minerva snickered. “You’re a feisty one. I’ll give you that. It’s a shame to turn you zombie, but that’s what they do with the adults that they don’t eat. You’re so toned and fit that I’m guessing they’ll think you too tough a meal. You’ll end up a zombie, I’ll bet.”

Just as its teeth were about to sink into the scalp, I hit the "raise" button, and Garrett shot up toward the second floor like a spring. Yet, that day, hospital after hospital told us they were understaffed. In a state of utter despair, I fumbled for Jane's number and called her. The ambulance screamed into view almost immediately. Jane leaped out, her face etched with panic, as she scooped Wendy from my limp arms. "What's she choking on?" I could only gaze at her, my eyes hollow, lost. "Fish." Without wasting another second, Jane hauled me into the ambulance. I sat there, watching my little girl, silent and soulless, as if she were already gone.

"Save me… I'm sorry… Please… It hurts so much…" Her screams rang out, yet no one moved. One by one, more zombies swarmed in and tore into her body with brutal force. Madeline's final gaze was fixed on the sky. Her eyes were filled with sheer despair. When the horde finally dispersed with low, satisfied growls, all that was left on the ground was a blurry pool of flesh and blood. Blood gushed from his body. The other contestants scattered in fear. When the competition ended, I was the only one who remained unscathed. No one could accuse me of having no superpower anymore.

With that, she feigned an embrace, only to push him lightly off the rooftop. Then, lifting her champagne glass toward the night sky, she toasted softly. "Sadie, let the past die with yesterday. From now on, you will be reborn anew. I hope your days from here on will be filled with joy."
