Of Wolves and Magic

Of Wolves and Magic

But instead of old stories from my grandmother’s life, the pages were scrawled with strange symbols and sketches—shorthand in her handwriting explaining the purpose of different runes and sigils. Flipping through the pages, there were sketches of wolves, and the last page that she’d written in had a detailed rendition of a nightmarish wolf-beast that made my blood run cold at the sight of it, it’s eyes smudged over with charcoal in the shape of a protective rune. My heart raced when I realized what I was holding. This was no ordinary journal, it was a spell book.

Queen of Wolves

Queen of Wolves

Silence followed—thick, deliberate, terrifying. I scrambled backward, breath coming in sharp gasps as shadows emerged between the trees. Yellow eyes. Gray fur streaked with blood. Wolves bigger than anything I had ever seen, but unlike the alpha this is average which only means the grey wolf is Alpha's beta Manuel. Their muscles coiling beneath their skin, teeth bared. My back hit a tree, nowhere left to go. I pressed myself against the bark, shaking so hard my teeth rattled. My legs refused to move. One of them stepped forward, massive and scarred, his eyes burning with recognition.

THE WOLF'S FATE

THE WOLF'S FATE

"You're beautiful, you know." He raced to strip and change after she poked his leg. She remained close to him while observing the other wolves. Trying to figure out who they were all? She'd eventually identify the entire pack, but she couldn't recognize who they were unless she could smell them. As they trotted to his house, a couple of kilometers distant, he massaged her muzzle with his cheek. Even so, she appeared suspicious, the way she drew her ears back and pressed her body against his to retain her bearing as they went, while she continued gazing about at the other wolves. He hoped he could question her about what was wrong. In an attempt to soothe her down, he turned his head and lick

Wolves of winter hollow

Wolves of winter hollow

I didn’t respond, because I didn’t know if I had chosen anything—or if I’d simply been cornered. The howling started just after midnight. Not the rhythmic howls of a patrol or a wolf singing to the moon. This was guttural. Desperate. Like bones cracking under pressure. “Babe get up,” I parted Lisendra, “Can you hear the howls.” “Yes, I do hear them.” She said, in something like panic. We stood up from where we laid. Although I was an Alpha but I could still feel my fingers twitch, “Rogues,” I growled, already shifting into my wolf before the words fully left my mouth.

Her Forbidden Alpha

Her Forbidden Alpha

Rafael who was in wolf form engaged with another wolf as Scarlett lunged at another one, clawing the wolf's neck before she snapped its head, with her hands doing the damage that she knew they couldn’t heal from. Zidane was now limping, despite three wolves fighting Elijah with several dead around them. Scarlett growled menacingly. “Back down!” She hissed. It only made them hesitate at her Alpha command, she was after all their next Alpha and her command was second only to Zidane’s. However, the moment of hesitation was enough. Before they could continue Elijah took the chance to tear them both apart. Zidane growled lunging at her, but Elijah bit into his neck tearing him back and throwing h

The Wolves' Revenge

The Wolves' Revenge

As the fight got more intense, the two werewolves shifted, so that where two men were fighting before, there was a very large grey wolf, Thomas, and a slightly smaller black wolf, Jonas. The wolves circled each other, the grey one’s eyes full of wisdom, experience, and anger. In the black wolf’s eyes were a knowing look … and triumph, which was weird because it was being beaten hands down. Several bones in its body had been broken and it was favoring its right front leg, whereas the other wolf was very much unhurt. The fact that the black wolf was being beaten did not seem to faze it, though. Its eyes kept darting around, as though searching for something, so the pack members thought that it

Queen of the wolves

Queen of the wolves

Cyrus continued, unaware that the princess had ever zoned out, " I always thought they were a myth, and if I didn't chance upon some who survived an encounter with one, I'd have carried on through life never being any the wiser." "I'm sorry, what was that?" Alina asked as her heart stuttered and began beating harder, hope springing to life again. Cyrus looked at her quizzically from across the table, "I was sayin', I met these two wolves in a human town, just shy of your daddy's home, who told me to be careful of the caves around those parts. Their Alpha took on an Olitiau that wiped out their pack and an entire Vampire clutch, killing it but sustaining grievous wounds in the process. He's h

Scorned Luna; Betrayed By My Alpha

As they reached the lush greenery, they simultaneously surrendered to their wild sides, their bodies transforming with a fluid grace. Hazel's Wolf, Mia, emerged with a silvery glow, her fur shimmering in the sunlight. Maya's Wolf, on the other hand, was a stunning deep black, her coat glistening like polished onyx. The two Wolves circled each other, their tails wagging in excitement, their eyes gleaming with a shared joy.

Love this story so far. I hope she gets her revenge and second chance at real true love this time. Karma for the alpha and sister that betrayed and cheated on her. The Moon goddess will help her. Hopefully she is a special and powerful wolf.

Considering all comments between chapters seem to disappear, I expect this to as well... This story starts with a lot of promise. Unfortunately, it soon becomes disjointed and VERY repetitive. It feels like there’s been a lot of cut and paste going on. The author loses many opportunities to enthral.

A Goddess Gifted by Fate

A Goddess Gifted by Fate

A wolf zoomed past me tackling another hunter and digging its teeth into his neck. I took a quick look around, the wolves were effortlessly taking down the last of the hunters. Zelena was sending two more of them flying through the air in the direction of one of Felix’s traps. The hunter’s bodies bounced along the ground and then disappeared into the hole filled with spikes. I looked back and saw Tobias’s wolf standing over a hunter, his large paw was pinning him down. It was the man that was watching Zelena, the one in charge. I quickly ran over to them,

The Curse Within

The Curse Within

“Blue-eyed wolves? I’ve never heard of that one.” Zora nodded, pulling a thick tome toward her and flipping it open. She turned the pages with practiced ease, her fingers tracing the ancient text before she stopped at a particular section. She pointed to the words with a knowing look in her eyes. “The legend speaks of a pair of wolves, one a black wolf and one a white wolf, whose eyes are blue. It’s said that these wolves are destined to lead, to unite the packs and bring balance to the world. They’re not just any wolves—they’re the chosen ones. Their bond is said to be unbreakable, and their strength unmatched.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Civilian wolves in video games often serve as background elements or narrative devices, but their portrayal varies wildly depending on the game's tone and setting. In more realistic or survival-focused titles like 'The Long Dark,' wolves are neutral yet dangerous creatures—they won't attack unless provoked or if the player encroaches on their territory. The game nails the tension of encountering them; you’re just trying to survive, and so are they. It’s a refreshing take because it avoids the usual 'mindless aggressive beast' trope. On the flip side, games like 'The Witcher 3' sometimes use wolves as generic low-level enemies, which feels a bit lazy compared to their nuanced handling of other monsters.

Then there are games that humanize wolves, like 'Okami,' where they’re revered as divine beings. Amaterasu, the protagonist, is a wolf goddess, and the game’s folklore-inspired world treats wolves with reverence. It’s a stark contrast to how they’re often depicted as mere obstacles. Even indie games like 'WolfQuest' explore wolf behavior from a semi-realistic perspective, letting players live as a wolf navigating ecosystems. I wish more big-budget games took notes—wolves are more than just cannon fodder or scenery. They’re complex animals, and games that acknowledge that always leave a stronger impression on me.
