Nyosi stood in the center of the room, her hands clasped neatly behind her back, as Asset Null slowly advanced toward the broken bookshelf.
"You broke my leashes tonight, Baraka," Nyosi said, her voice dropping to a cold, final whisper. "But you forgot the golden rule of the military-industrial complex. We always have a bigger gun."
Asset Null raised his pale, bone-white hands, the pitch-black voids of his eyes locking onto Patient Zero in the dark.
For the first time since the war began, Baraka had no adaptations left to save him.
