Ricky was fascinated watching the lions pounce on the food provided by the zookeepers. Finally, their long journey of introducing Ricky to various animals ended at the Animal Museum. The entire room was cast in a bluish glow, compliments of the massive, three-story cylindrical aquarium that made up the structure of the space. Water plants grew to impossible heights and fish wove through them. Art was placed on easels around the room, with a place to write down and submit bids next to each one of them. Gage walked over to one of the displays and, without even glancing at the artwork, took a form and wrote an astronomical sum on it before dropping it in the box.

The other is lined with African memorabilia, art, and things you’ll never find in the US — lion skull, buffalo hide, kudu antlers, impala horns, hyena ballsacks — basically everything that could traumatize a vegan in under ten seconds. But tastefully done. Somehow, despite the chaos, the place feels warm. Safe. Like going on safari with your grandmother. If your grandmother served tequila and had a fondness for endangered species.
