The Alpha king and the Hunt
“Not what is beautiful, not what is grand, but what will serve you best.”
One by one, the contenders moved forward.
Serena, tall and proud, swept past me with a smirk curling her lips. She selected a gleaming longsword, lifting it as though it were an extension of her arm. Giselle chose a spear, spinning it experimentally with practiced ease. The third, Matilda picked up a wicked-looking axe, her muscles flexing as she tested its weight.
And then it was my turn.
I stepped forward slowly, my palms damp, the murmurs of the crowd like buzzing in my ears. My eyes roved over the table. The sword gleamed, tempting in its majesty. The spear promised reach. The axe promised raw power.
