Chapter 16

Her eyes looked up to see everyone staring at her. Earlier, she had taken off the bandage to make the wound less noticeable, and she had hidden it with her hair.

She should have known that this devil wouldn’t just let her be. He couldn’t just let things slide without throwing her under the moving train.

Her hands trembled underneath the table at the questioning eyes on her. Her hands slowly reached out to touch her forehead. Her hair had given way for the wound to be exposed—or it might just be this demon’s eyes that caused it.

Anna gulped saliva down her throat that had suddenly gone dry. “I slipped and fell on the stairs,” her eyes stared at no one in particular.

She saw Domenico go back to eating his food, annoyance smeared all over his face like she had said something completely stupid.

“I’m sorry about that, Anna,” the Don said, and Anna slightly bowed at him, returning the gratitude.

Well, that was nicely swept under the carpet, she praised herself, and right now, she just felt like digging her fork into Leone’s eye hole.

He stared at her, a sinister smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, and that glint in his eyes simply told her he was not quite done with her. She was right, though, because his damn mouth spoke again:

“I’m deeply sorry this had to happen.” His eyes held fake sincerity that only she could point out. “The maids here must’ve done a terrible job with the cleaning. We will not condone that. Remind me when you had the incident again?”

Her bones froze. Her lips quivered, but she bit it hard to conceal it from the prying eyes. She looked back up at him. “It was yesterday, but I’m totally fine now and there’s no need for—”

“Nonsense!” Leone cut her off. “It might’ve not been you but the Don who might have taken the fall. Incompetence will not be tolerated here.”

Dear God. Cold sweat rolled down her back.

“Steward,” Leone snapped his fingers to have the butler quickly stand beside him. “Bring the maid who was in charge of cleaning the stairs. Now,” he ordered.

Anna turned to look at the Don. He was the only sane man here at this table; she hoped for him to oppose, but he said nothing—just watched.

Five minutes later, the butler was back with the maid, who was visibly trembling in fear. She appeared young, even younger than her. Her heart twisted.

The girl was quick to fall on her knees, and everything seemed like a horrifying nightmare to Anna. Her heartbeat accelerated when she watched Leone pull out his gun. Why was he doing this? For her to admit that she had been lying?

She watched the crazy lunatic rise from his seat, and then he walked in front of the girl who had begun crying. He was going to shoot her. She felt cold air from nowhere hit her as goosebumps formed on her skin.

“Anna, since you are the victim here, you don’t mind doing this, do you?” Leone questioned, tilting her head to the side with a cunning smile on his face.

This man hadn’t told them what she did. He had treated her wounds and even carried her back to her room only to have her admit her offense.

At this point, even Domenico, who hadn’t cared about what was happening, had looked up to stare at her. The Don had his eyes fixed on her too—everyone did, expectantly.

Anna’s heart thudded in her ears as she rose to her feet, her eyes falling on the butler first and then the trembling maid who was at the brink of death.

Her eyes fell on Leone. She felt like taking the gun and shooting him instead. Her chest felt heavy—too heavy that she couldn’t breathe. She had to say something. She couldn’t let this innocent girl die because of her.

As heavy as her chest felt, she spoke up. “I can’t do it,” and although she said this out loud, that didn’t stop Leone from stretching the gun at her, wanting her to take it.

She looked him in his eyes, internally pleading with him to stop this charade, but there was no stopping when it came to him. Was this the punishment he had been talking about? If it was, it was far too cruel.

“Anna, you do know you’re the future lady of the empire. Like it or not, you must learn to lead with an iron fist,” the Don spoke.

Nice words, coming from someone who had outrightly denied her from learning combat skills to defend herself. Sounds like the plan was to use her—to control and push her around.

Her jaw clenched as she looked between the gun and Leone, who looked like he had no plan to back off from this. He seemed like he was even enjoying this more than he was supposed to.

“Take the damn gun and do the needful,” Domenico snapped.

Even if she had grown up in a mafia empire, she had never touched a gun before—much less used it on someone who was innocent and bared no crimes.

If she admitted her wrong, she would not only have the sin of trespassing in her head—the lie she had told earlier tripled the problem. It would take a millisecond for them to find out she had been trying to escape too. She couldn’t let that happen. She could be selfish just this once—become one with the demons who sat with her at this table, who normalized death.

With a trembling hand, Anna took the gun from Leone, and the smirk he flashed her—like he was taunting her, silently telling her she couldn’t shed blood to cover herself.

Anna’s grip on the gun tightened as she aimed it at the maid, who had lost all hope of leaving this room alive. She cocked the gun, but instead of shooting at the maid, she shot at the butler instead.

Chapter 29Her brows knotted as the ray of sun came to fall on her face. Her eyes flew open, and her hand flew to cover her eyes from the sun. She slowly sat up on the bed, her eyes taking in her surroundings. She was in her room—on her bed.Was everything that happened a dream? Oh, she wished it was, but the shirt which she was wearing now told her otherwise. A black T-shirt which looked more like a gown on her body, and it was heavy with his scent, his cologne. What had she done? How could she let everything happen when she knew too well how things were at the moment? She liked Rocco. What was she saying? She loved him, with all her heart. So why? Why could she do that? This was wrong. If they found out—Domenico and the Don—they might have her killed or worse. How could she be so careless? She felt this guilt weigh on her heart. She shouldn’t have gone to his mansion, she shouldn’t have been worried about him. Then all of this could’ve been avoided.Anna ran her hand through he

Chapter 28Anna’s eyes flew wide in shock. It felt like time paused at that moment as she watched him rip her nightie off with his manly strength. He covered her completely. She felt so small underneath him, underneath those wild gray orbs. He was the only thing she could see, feel, and even smell. His cologne wrapped her completely as she stared in a daze.Yes, it was all her fault. She told him to back off, but she had come here on her own. She hadn’t thought things through. She had been worried after seeing his wound, but she hadn’t foreseen the outcome. She hadn’t seen this coming at all.She saw a great amount of hunger in those orbs, and it felt like she had willingly sacrificed herself to him.His eyes latched on her now-exposed breasts, and she raised her trembling hands to his shoulder—a flimsy attempt to push him away—but it all ended with both her hands being pinned above her head. His nose trailed down the valley of her breasts. His warm breath made her toes curl. No, this

Chapter 27Anna stood at her balcony, a glass of juice in her hand, which she drank from. The wind blew her hair, making it fall on her face, but she slowly tucked it behind her ear.Chiara had retired to her room for the night, giving her enough space for the words she had said to sink in. She had seen him that night, the way he had leisurely said it like it had nothing to do with her. Her heart raced, her cheeks burned. Anna gulped down the remaining content in the glass as her mind recalled the night of the Omerta ball.Acting crazy was his thing, but that night, it had been entirely different. He had been… possessive, like he owned her—owned her body. He had been raspy, like he had lost all patience with her. She hadn’t been aware of what she did, what warranted such behavior from him—well, aside from witnessing him committing an all-out murder, showing up in his tub naked, and trespassing that night when she should have been asleep—but her guts told her it wasn’t because of tha

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 26: Back Off

Chapter 26Anna sat on her sofa in her room while Chiara helped her undo her hair. Despite the fact she was currently in her room, she could still hear Leone’s voice, who stood right outside her room talking to the now recuperated butler. She felt anxious, exhausted, and overwhelmed by how the night had unfolded. Her head was in a mess, and it was all because of one person—Leone Vicenzo. She had fully convinced herself that his number one motive was to make her lose her mind—and watch it happen. “All done, ma’am,” Chiara said, and it was then she noticed her hair had been unclipped and it fell down her back. “Should I proceed with helping you take off the dress, ma’am?”Anna shook her head. “You can leave. Goodnight.”Chiara bowed politely and turned to leave, but even Anna easily noticed how scared she was to walk out the door—probably because the man who had been so hellbent on ending her life stood right outside. Her shoulders were stiff as her trembling hand held the doorknob.

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 25: Predator And The Prey

Chapter 25Her heart caught in her throat as she stared at him, his gaze feral, daring her to do what he said, like a predator just waiting to pounce on its prey. She felt this strange kind of heat coerce through every crook and cranny of her body, his hand on her slender waist warm, his grip firm. His one hand nearly circled the whole of her waist; that was just how small she was compared to him, the way he stared down at her, like she was a small little bird. Her toes curled, her heart beat so fast that she feared it might just burst through her chest. Earlier he had held her thigh, and she had thought he simply wanted to irk her, but that wasn’t the case right now.Right now, he seemed like a starved man, one who had lost all patience. Anna could do nothing but stare at him helplessly, his minty breath falling on her face.Leone didn’t need to lean in further to hear how her heart thudded in her ribcage. When he had fondled her thigh earlier in the car, he had loved watching her go

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 24: Say It Again

Leone’s control had slipped and smashed into unrecoverable bits when she created an unneeded distance between them. His eyes bored deeply into hers; they promised her no good, and she was smart enough to read them. Without another word, she got up and sat on the chair closest to him.Anna’s cheek was flushed, and she was at least glad that the lights on this side of the room were dim, making fewer people see her change seats.“You don’t own me, Leone,” she muttered, but loud enough for him to hear, and although she had simply said it for clarity, she was unaware that it had made something snap in him.Her eyes fell back on Maurizio, who had just concluded his speech, and numerous people stood up to have a handshake with him.A tall man in a red suit wordlessly came and sat at their table. His hair was blood red, his eyes black, his jaw sharp and firm. He was handsome too, just like Leone, but what was he doing here? Was he Leone’s cousin, perhaps?“Maurizio,” Leone called nonchalantly,
