“So where exactly are we going?” Rowena asked as we walked through the woods.

Roman was walking beside me and hanging close by like he always did. While Oisin was walking ahead, watching Kerrigan, who was flying in the skies above us.

Kerrigan usually acted as our scout, but his usefulness was very limited in a forest with this much of a thick covering obstructing the skies. There was a low chance that the eagle would actually spot anything in time to warn us, but I was going to use every means at my disposal to make sure that we remained safe anyway. It didn’t matter to me if they were of only limited effectiveness.

Then Orlaith was walking behind Rowena and me. The bear was acting as our vanguard. That made it, so I was only worried about us getting flanked. But it was still good to cover as much of our position as possible while we traveled.

“You didn’t hear me, did you?” Rowena asked.

“Oh, I heard you. We are going back to Barley. That was where my last lead on the movement of the

  • MY SECOND-CHANCE MATE IS A WOLF HUNTER   CHAPTER 81: MORNING

The day time came slowly and only after a great amount of effort.I understood the theory behind what Phoenix had been doing with Rowena. She had a fever which meant that the temperature of her body was rising. Especially her head, which was one of the most important parts of her body.So I dipped the towel into the bowl of water, squeezed it lightly and then touched it to Rowena's forehead to draw the excessive heat coming from her head. The effects where immediate and obvious. She would move around less and her fever would cool off. Usually it was enough to ride through a fever. But with Rowena, the fever didn't seem to be going anywhere.Roman helped me change the water multiple times when I asked him to. In fact, that was the only talking that went on there.Oisin seemed to not need sleep and he stayed as sentry for his sister all night. After two hours, I began to wonder if Fae actually needed sleep. But then again I could remember multiple instances of Oisin sleeping. None of th

  • MY SECOND-CHANCE MATE IS A WOLF HUNTER   Chapter 80: Morning

"About that..."I suddenly found it difficult to talk. The hope on Phoenix's face had been so visible that it was almost a tangible thing. It broke my heart to shatter something like that. How could I tell him the news that I got?Phoenix stared at me and his face fell. He must have noticed my facial expression and immediately deduced that something had gone wrong."Morning where's the doctor?" Phoenix asked again. This time his voice was noticeably less excited.I cringed at his use of my name. It felt as if he was accusing me directly. And it felt even worse because I believed that I deserved to be accused. It was my fault."I..." I still couldn't say it.Phoenix looked down for a second as if to collect himself. Then he looked back at me. His face was now mostly blank as if he had manually removed all of his emotions.I got a grip of myself at the change in his expression. I hated to do this, but I had no choice. It was better if he just found out directly and without any sugar coa

  • MY SECOND-CHANCE MATE IS A WOLF HUNTER   CHAPTER 79: MORNING

"What!?"My face fell at his words."You have to wait." The man said. His voice was like a whimper.I didn't have the time to consider if I had scared him a little too much.He just told me that there was no doctor because it was night time. Now that I considered it, it made some level of sense. It wasn't like healers would be working at this time in a dead town like this. But the healer still lived here didn't they? The town wasn't that big so we could find them. It was definitely better than waiting for a few hours.I remembered Rowena's situation. She already had a high fever. Phoenix and the others would be working to manage it but I wasn't very optimistic. And of course I couldn't forget my theory of a candle sputtering out.As much as I hated to think it, it looked like Rowena was dying.Even this whole doctor thing was grasping at straws.I had hardly known Rowena, but still I didn't want her to die just like that. Especially when I saw what her illness was doing to Phoenix and

  • MY SECOND-CHANCE MATE IS A WOLF HUNTER   CHAPTER 78: MORNING

The innkeeper's face turned ashen.I felt the rage boil out of me as I squeezed. The innkeeper tightened his grip on my hand. He must have been trying to bend them away from his neck, but he quickly found that my grip was like iron. His eyes went even wider. The innkeeper was not a slight man, although he wasn't much taller than me. So he was shocked beyond his wildest imagination when he discovered that he couldn't move my hands in the moment.I growled and showed him my teeth. The innkeeper started kicking with his legs as he struggled to breathe.I felt my anger burn hotter. The color of my eyes bled into a dark red.I wanted to rip out his throat. Then an image flashed through my mind.It was the image of a mother holding tightly to her daughter as they both cowered from my red gaze.I dropped the innkeeper like he was a hot stone. He fell to the ground with a loud thud.I took a step back and realized what I had almost done.I looked at my hands. They were covered in veins and m

  • MY SECOND-CHANCE MATE IS A WOLF HUNTER   CHAPTER 77: MORNING

I was just as shocked as Phoenix when I heard Oisin's words.Rowena was waking up!?Phoenix and I wasted no time. I immediately shot out of the bed. Phoenix on the other hand was still slower than me, but he got up regardless.I hurried to the door which Phoenix had locked earlier. The key was still in the lock. I turned it and the door swung inwards.Oisin stood in front of the door. Suddenly he looked like the boy he was. Small and anxious. He looked up at me."She started stirring a few moments ago. I was already asleep and it was Roman who woke me up." Oisin said.Phoenix finally reached the door behind me."Let's go see her."Oisin, Phoenix and I hurried to the other room. As soon as I entered the room I saw what Oisin had been talking about.Rowena was lying flat on the bed. Her body was splayed with both her arms and legs stretching to accommodate the entire bed.Roman stood beside her. He looked very confused and he didn't know what to do.Rowena was sweating profusely. But th

  • MY SECOND-CHANCE MATE IS A WOLF HUNTER   CHAPTER 76: PHOENIX

Another migraine hit me. But luckily it was a lot weaker than the last one. I got off easily as I only had to push against the wall with one hand for support. After I waited for five seconds, most of the pain receded. Worry flashed through my mind. Everyday it seemed like my condition wasn’t getting any better. I was too weak to do anything and I had been in a coma for awhile. I had been a constant burden to Morning and the others, because they had to carry me just to get by. What if I never got better? It never crossed my mind to be worried for myself. Ever since the day I walked away from the church, I had been ready to die for what was right. That was no concern to me. But I was scared that I would die before I could complete my mission. Even with many months of being an outlaw, I had not gotten any great achievement. I had made little progress in my mission. Things were moving forward, especially now. But what if I never recovered. It would be a cruel joke from Sol.
