*Astrid's POV*

I sat on the edge of the bed, my heart pounding hard in my chest. Anxiety gnawed at me as I waited for the doctor to reveal the results of my tests. The scent of antiseptic hung heavily in the air, heightening my uneasiness.

Dr. May entered the room with a warm smile. And from the look on her face, I bet she could sense my apprehension. Sitting down across from me, she clasped her hands together and spoke softly.

“Congratulations Luna, you're one month pregnant!” 

“What!?” I yelled in shock as I stood up.

I literally couldn't believe it, a great feeling of relief coursed through me. This all seemed like a dream to me, I've been trying to get pregnant for such a long time, I've literally lost all hope in ever getting to be pregnant and now this has happened.

“Are you being serious, doctor? T.. this isn't a joke, right? Am I truly pregnant?” I questioned in tears.

“Yes Luna, this isn't a joke or a dream, you're pregnant!” Doctor May replied with a huge smile on her face, then she stood up to shake my hand.

But I wanted more than just a handshake, I needed to hold someone right now, I instantly hugged her, crying uncontrollably.

Doctor May kept on congratulating me as well as doing her best to make me stop crying, but these were all tears of joy, I alone knew what I've gone through, my once loving mate suddenly became cold-hearted towards me, and it was all because I couldn't give him an heir, many began to call me barren, but that's not true, luck has finally shone on me, I'm not a barren Luna. I'm pregnant!!

“I should call Kai.” I said as I broke the hug. “He'll be more than pleased to hear this, we're having a baby! I'm pregnant!” I squealed in excitement.

“You should do just that, Luna, I'm sure the Alpha will be so happy to hear this news.” Doctor May said and I nodded.

She then gave me the pregnancy report. “Thank you so much, doctor May.” I said before excitedly running out of her office.

“Be careful Luna.” Doctor May yelled after.

When I got outside, I hurriedly fetched my phone from my purse and I placed a call through to Kai, the phone kept on ringing but no one answered it.

“Where the hell are you, Kai?” I said impatiently.

I kept on trying to reach him, but it was all to no avail, and soon I finally gave up.

I held the pregnancy report so tight to my heart, I just couldn't wait to tell Kai about this great news. My heart was filled with so much joy that I might actually explode due to how much happiness I'm feeling at the moment.

This has been one of our biggest dreams and finally, that dream has become a reality. We're going to be parents!

While I rushed home with so much joy and eagerness, I had no idea that my life was about to take a huge turn for the worse.

When I arrived home, I ran upstairs to our bedroom, but the words I heard made me stop dead in my tracks.

“Oh my goodness….fuck me harder baby…that's right…. I'm all yours baby…fuck me harder…” These were the words I heard as I stood outside our bedroom.

My heart clenched tightly at the sound of my mate's moans. I didn't want to believe that it was him, he was my mate, I didn't want to believe that he would do this to me, but I still had to see for myself.

I slowly opened the door, and I was welcomed with a sight that shattered my heart into pieces; a sight that broke my whole world.

Right there on our bed was my mate and the last person I would never believe to betray me like this. My best friend! They were having sex!

For a moment I couldn't say anything, I was too stunned to speak, all I did was watch them in tears and pain.

“Kai!” I screamed when I finally found my voice and they both turned to look at me.

“What the hell!” Kai cursed as he instantly got off 

“H… how could you do this to me? You're my mate, for heavens’ sake!” I cried out.

I was expecting to see a look of guilt and regret on his face, but there was nothing like that. Kai didn't look remorseful at all, and all I saw was anger.

I looked at Kathryn, even she didn't look remorseful. She gave me a look of scorn and resentment that shocked me.

“How could you, Kathy! You're my best friend! I took you as my sister, I trusted you both, so how could the both of you do this to me? How could you betray me like this?” I yelled.

No number of words could describe the pain I was feeling at the moment. 

“Just spare me that bullshit you're saying, Astrid. You act as if you don't know the reason I'm doing this!” Kai spat, his voice laced with so much hate and anger.

I had just caught the both of them red-handed and this was all he could say to me! These were the people I trust and love so much; people I am willing to sacrifice anything for, even my life. They both betrayed me!

“What?” I questioned in disbelief. “W…what are you talking about? What do you mean?”

''You call yourself my mate, yet you can't give me a son; an heir to my throne,” He blurted.

I tried to speak, but my voice failed me. I looked at Kai in disbelief, this was the man I loved with every fiber of my being. We've been together for so long that I was still finding all this so hard to believe, this all feels like one bad dream to me and I can't just wait to wake up.

I don't want to believe that my mate who I believed loved me so much will cheat on me with my own best friend!

Yes, things haven't been really okay between us, but I never believed it would go this far.

“No. This can't be happening. It's all a dream, it isn't real.” I kept on chanting like a mantra.

My eyes were tightly closed, and I was hoping to wake up from this nightmare.

Kai's dark chuckle made me open my eyes.

“This isn't a dream Astrid, since you've failed to give me an heir, you don't deserve that title you possess.'' He said, and I instantly knew what was coming next.

“I, Alpha Kai Carson of the Shadow Claw Pack reject you, Astrid Watson, as my mate and Luna.”
