عرض المزيدChapter 1
"No, please, let me go! Let me go! That's my mom and dad! I want Mom and Dad!" It’s been over four years since I lost my parents, and yet, I still remember it like it happened yesterday. A little girl crying on her birthday—the same day her parents were buried. I was so young then. But I had Grandpa. Ever since they passed, he’s been the one taking care of me. He’s always been there, kind and dependable. I’ve always done my best to grant his wishes because he means the world to me. So, when I found out Grandpa had cancer, something inside me shattered. I realized time was no longer on our side. One evening, I overheard him talking to Mr. Sholis, one of his closest friends. "I want to see my Camila get married someday—even if it's the day I take my last breath," Grandpa said with a bittersweet smile. "It would make me so happy. She’s always been so distant when it comes to love. And she’s so beautiful, so ready to get married." "I know she will, Damian," Mr. Sholis replied gently. "Just give her time. You can’t rush love." His words began to fade into the background as I slipped into deep thought. If I don’t get married soon, Grandpa might die with that one wish left unfulfilled. And something about that made it feel like I'd be letting him down in the worst way. Later that week, Kim, one of my closest friends and colleagues, approached me with her usual sense of intuition. "Hey, girl. What’s up? You haven’t been yourself lately. Is everything okay?" She always knew when something was off with me. We hadn’t even been close for that long, but for some reason, I found it easy to open up to her—and she to me. "I’m just worried about my grandpa. He wants me to get married… and he has an incurable disease. I really want to make him happy while I still can." Kim's eyes widened. "Wait—hold up. You say that like marriage is something you can just jump into. Even if you want to grant his wish, it’s still going to take time to find the right person." I shrugged. "To be honest, I’ve never really cared much about marriage. It’s just not something I’ve ever been interested in. So I don’t mind marrying anyone, really." Kim blinked. "Even if you’re not interested, your partner might be. That’s not something to take lightly." I nodded slowly, realizing how complicated this really was. "You should take a break," she said, her voice gentle. "I’ll cover for you today, okay?" I smiled faintly, thanked her, and packed up my things. As I walked out of the company building, my mind was clouded with thoughts—so much so that I didn’t notice the person in front of me until I almost walked right into him. "Watch where you’re going," a sharp voice snapped. I stumbled slightly and looked up. "Oh my God, I’m so sorry," I blurted, trying to catch my balance. "There are better places to think than the middle of the road. Next time, watch where you’re going," he said coolly before walking toward the sleek Bugatti Chiron parked nearby. I froze. That voice… that face… it was him. My cold, handsome boss. Despite his arrogant personality and dark reputation, nearly every woman I knew chased after him. And I couldn't exactly blame them—he was a dangerously charming playboy. I wonder if marriage would mean anything to someone like him. "Should I…?" I whispered. "No, of course not," I muttered, shaking my head. Why would someone like him be interested in someone like me? I wasn’t desperate enough to ask my boss to marry me. Or was I? Exhausted and mentally drained, I walked toward my car. A strange wish welled up in my chest—I just wish someone would ask me to marry them. I ended up driving aimlessly around the city. Oddly, the roads were unusually clear, which was rare. Eventually, I pulled up in front of a bar, needing something—anything—to distract me. To be honest, it was my first time going into a bar alone. The music hit me the moment I stepped inside—louder than I expected. I glanced around and saw some married coworkers flirting shamelessly, hands all over women who weren’t their wives. If marriage is supposed to be such a big deal, why would they do something like this behind their partners’ backs? Disgusted, I made my way to the bar and slammed my hand lightly on the counter to get the bartender’s attention. "A tequila, please," I said, keeping my eyes on the counter. Just then, I heard a man’s voice beside me. "Do you think I care, Grandpa? I didn’t like her. I’m not in a rush to get married. Just give me time," he said, placing some bills on the counter and turning to leave. I turned and watched as he walked toward the exit. There was something about him—his voice, his demeanor—that pulled me in. Maybe it was desperation, maybe fate, but I knew I couldn’t let that moment pass. Without thinking, I dug into my purse, threw down some money for my drink—probably more than needed—and rushed after him. He was just about to get into a sleek black Mercedes-Benz C300 when I called out, my heart pounding in my chest. "Will you marry me then?" He froze, his hand on the car door. Time seemed to stop. Even I couldn’t believe the words had just come out of my mouth.Chapter 23 "Good morning, Mrs. Camila. How was your night?" the receptionist greeted warmly as I walked into the office. I gave her a soft smile and waved back, continuing through the hallway, greeting my coworkers as I passed. "Good morning, Camila! Are you excited for next week?" Kim said, rushing up to me with excitement practically glowing from her face. "What are you talking about? What’s up next week?" I asked with a puzzled smile. "What do you mean what’s up next week, girl?" she said, her excitement turning to disbelief. "Everyone’s talking about it! It’s literally the biggest news ever." She stared at me like I’d grown another head. "Didn’t you check the group chat? We’ve been talking about it everywhere!" "Sorry, Kim," I replied, scratching the back of my neck. "I haven’t been active in the group lately. I’ve just been… really busy. I haven’t even had enough time for myself. Not to mention, I already have plans next week," I said, my thoughts drifting toward Adrian a
Chapter 22"Grandpa, is everything okay?" I asked, getting up from the chair to make sure everything was fine—and also to find out what those men wanted with me."Go inside, Camila. I'll handle this," Grandpa said authoritatively, his eyes still locked on the men in black."Please, Mr. Damian, we're sorry for the sudden appearance. We thought you were informed. Please, we're truly sorry," one of the men said, bowing. His face, which was stern a moment ago, now reflected clear fear. The tension in the air was palpable."Then what are you here for?" Grandpa asked, his expression unchanged—cold, firm, and almost... terrifying."Well, Mr. Adrian asked us to pick up Camila since her car broke down," one of them explained, while the other’s eyes briefly met mine.I glanced outside and saw a sleek black car parked at the curb. That’s when I remembered Adrian mentioning my broken-down car."Oh, they're right, Grandpa. My car did have a fault, and I haven’t had time to fix it yet. Adrian said
Chapter 21 For a moment, he didn’t respond, but I knew he had seen my message. I stared at my phone, wondering if I had crossed a line. “My younger brother is getting married, so it would be a shame not to get married too.” He finally replied. I found it hard to believe. Was he trying to compete with Roderick, or was it something else? “Okay, so you don’t like her, right?” I asked, not even sure why I was curious. Was I worried that Adrian really got married? “My father wants you to be involved in decorating the party, so you can go on a break a week from now.” He completely avoided my question. “Okay... can I at least invite someone to help me and attend the party with me? Oh, and when will it take place?” I asked, now thinking of Sisi and Roderick. “Yes, but who else do you want to invite? Don’t tell me it’s that Peter guy.” Adrian’s reply made me laugh a little. I didn’t know why, but little by little, it became easier to text him—almost like we could talk about anything
Chapter 20 "Hello," I said as the phone call got picked up. After the drama with Adrian's marriage and Roderick's strange behavior, I decided to call Sisi to check up on her while Grandpa wrapped things up with Mr. and Mrs. Clastu. I wanted to update her on everything that had been going on and, if possible, try to convince her to come back. "Hey, what’s up girl! I lovey puu! How are you, Camila?" she said with excitement, clearly happy to hear my voice. "Don’t give me that crap. If you were that excited to see me, then why didn’t you call?" I said, trying to put the blame on her for not reaching out first. "I’m so sorry, Camila. I’ve been so busy lately, and I won’t lie — it’s been quite exciting here. But don’t try to flip the script on me. You forgot about me too. I know you've been having fun with both brothers, right?" she teased. I rolled my eyes. Sisi always found a way to make things sound scandalous. I did wonder, though, what always got her so excited whenever she trave
chapter 19 After a while, she finally let go of my hand and sat back down. I did the same. I stared at her for a moment but then turned my gaze to Grandpa and the Clastu family. They all looked genuinely happy. I knew better than to cause a scene. I gently picked up a fork—only to take a glimpse of Adrian. His eyes were fixed on Aria, and the expression on his face stunned me. He looked furious. His gaze was sharp and direct, almost like he was ready to fight. A minute ago, he didn’t even acknowledge her presence, but now he couldn’t seem to stop staring at her. His sudden change in demeanor made her visibly uncomfortable. My fork slipped from my hand, mostly because I was too distracted by Adrian’s reaction. Did he notice what she did? Is that why he's acting like this? I wondered. As I bent to pick up the fork, my eyes caught Roderick. His face was serious, his attention squarely on me. Was he still mad at me? “It was just a little quarrel, Mr. Virgin,” I muttered under my brea
Chapter 18 “What?” I whispered, slowly turning to Adrian, who didn’t even seem excited—his gaze fixed on his phone. I stared, wondering if I had heard wrong. My heart skipped a beat after hearing what Mr. Clastu just said. A wave of tension, pressure, and a confusing feeling hit me, like I was about to lose Adrian all over again. I stood silently for a moment before looking at Roderick, who ate his food without a care in the world about his brother’s marriage. Did he know? I wondered, then glanced at the two ladies and the man sitting beside Adrian. The girl was beautiful. Her skin was fair and smooth, and even sitting down, she had a very attractive figure. She reminded me of Sisi, and the shirt she wore complemented her look so well—she almost looked like a model. I stared for a moment longer, then noticed the man and woman who had come with her. They must be her parents. Unfortunately, neither Adrian nor Roderick seemed to care. “Please excuse me,” I said, pushing my chair bac
