View More"Could this traffic get any worse?" I groaned in frustration.
I've literally been in traffic for an hour now and it's still counting.
My phone suddenly beeped and my frustrations immediately vanished. It was the love of my life calling.
"You're missing me yet?" I said as I picked the call.
"Miss you? No, I have better things to do." Noah replied and I could literally picture the smirk on his face.
I gasped and clicked my tongue. "Well, Mr. Noah Woods, I suggest you resume back to whatever you were doing. I'm quite busy at the moment too."
He chuckled over the phone and I can't help but smile. "I can't wait till I see his face again and watch him laugh," I thought with a cute smile on my face.
"You know, I'm lying right?" he said "Nothing, I repeat, nothing, is as important as you, baby."
"I know, I doubt anyone can tolerate you otherwise." I giggled.
"Haha, very funny. But seriously, babe, when will you be back? I'm dying here." he whines.
"Soon, my love and don't forget, I have a surprise for you." I heard him groan over the phone and it made me to laugh.
"You've been saying that for over one month now. Can't you just tell me already." I heard the pout in his words.
"Nope." I made sure the 'p' popped well.
A car horn blasted loudly, reminding me that I'm still on the road. It was the car beside me, trying to signal to me that the line was moving. The traffic was finally clearing.
"Baby, can I call you when I get home? Traffic's finally clearing."
"No problem, Baby. Don't forget to call." he ended the call as I ignite the car engine.
An unconscious smile was still on my lips.
I honestly couldn't wait to break the news to him. I touched my tummy, trying to feel any movement but I couldn't.
A few more months and I most definitely will.
As I drove onward, my phone dropped from my left hand to the side of the driver's door. "Shit." I cursed as I bent to take it.
It took me a few seconds to retrieve the phone. The car horn that sounded next was very loud. I raised my head right in time to see the trailer driving towards me, but I was not fast enough to swerve the car from the incoming trailer.
I watched, petrified as the trailer drove close, and about to crush me. My life flashed before my eyes and just before it collides with my car....
I jumped from my sleep, breathing heavy and hard.
"It's okay, you're safe now." I heard Maddie say as she lightly rubbed my back.
My eyes slowly adjusted to my surroundings and I realized I had dozed off in my office.
As my breath stabilized, I turned to give Maddie a soft smile. "Thank you." I said, patting her arm. "How long have you been waiting for me to wake?"
A sheepish smile appeared on her face as she walks back to sit on the chair opposite my desk. "Well.... Let's say I've been waiting for a while."
"I'm sorry." I said apologetically. This nightmare is going to ruin my life. But it's technically not a nightmare as it has happened before.
I rubbed the side of my left cheek where a stitched injury was almost done healing. It's been 5 years and my mind wouldn't stop replaying the accident I had encountered.
An accident that has cost me more than I can ever get in life.
"I think you should take therapy, Elina." I tried to speak but she raised up her hand, cutting me off. "Hear me out okay? I know you hate therapy but you need to find a way to conquer this trauma and nightmare. It's ruining you! Look at your face,"
I touched my face and realized it was rough. "It seems like you've not slept in days, there are huge bags under your eyes and your eyes look dull. I want what is best for you, Elina and as your best friend, I think you already know that. Promise me you'll go."
I sighed and nodded my head. "Alright, Maddie. I'll start therapy....."
I watched her grin as I complete my statement. "...right after this contract." The smile stopped from her face, causing me to laugh.
Maddie sighed, softening. “Just do whatever you want. But honestly, you've gotta stop letting ghosts haunt you, Elina. He’s not here. You don’t owe him anything anymore.”
But that’s the thing. I do.
I owe Noah Woods the truth.
I just never dared to give it to him.
Before I could answer, the door opened and our project coordinator, Amelia, poked her head in. “Hey, sorry to interrupt, but the client for the Block Estate just approved the final contract. They want to schedule a meeting this Friday at their office to go over the design vision and timeline.”
My eyebrows rise. “This Friday? That’s fast.”
Amelia nods. “The CEO’s schedule opened up, and he wants to meet the designer personally.”
Maddie and I exchanged a glance.
That’s… unusual. CEOs of multi-million-dollar firms rarely bother with interior design meetings—unless they have control issues or egos the size of the Empire State Building.
Still, I schooled my face into calm professionalism. “Okay. Send me the meeting details.”
As Amelia leaves, Maddie raises a brow. “You thinking what I’m thinking?”
“Big-shot CEO wants to micromanage his velvet armchairs? Yep.”
“Sounds about right,” I smirk. “I’ll charm him into submission.”
Maddie grins. “There’s my girl.”
I laugh with her and for a moment, I let grief dissolve. I won't be seeing Noah anymore and I'm sure he's happy with his new life now.
It hurts bad that life is not with me but it's for the best. I've cost him so much trouble already. I hope he's got someone who can be less of a trouble for him. Someone who can bear him the child he so badly loves and wants.
Elina’s POVI pull the soft sweater over my head and try not to notice how my hands tremble. My legs feel heavy as I slip into my jeans, almost as if they know what happened a few minutes ago has changed something between us forever. The room still smells faintly of Noah, his cologne, his skin, the faint sweat from what we just did. I don’t want to think about it, but my body betrays me, still warm, still tingling from his touch.I walk toward the bathroom to fix my hair when Noah’s voice stops me.“Elina.”I pause, hand on the doorknob. He is sitting on the edge of the bed now, fully dressed, shirt buttoned up, hair still slightly damp from the rushed shower. His blue eyes look softer than usual, almost guilty.“I shouldn’t have done that,” he says quietly, his voice almost strained. “I shouldn’t have just walked in and… tried to ignite something we’re not ready for.”My chest tightens.“It’s fine,” I say, keeping my voice even as I push the door open. “I need to dress up and go to th
Elina’s POVNoah’s grip on my waist didn’t loosen. If anything, it grew firmer, pulling me flush against his chest. My breath hitched at the nearness, at the familiar scent of him, clean soap, cedarwood, something that had haunted my dreams for five years.“Not just a thank you, Elina,” he murmured, his lips brushing my temple. “I want more.”My mouth went dry. I wanted to push him away, to tell him that this wasn’t fair— that we weren’t ready for this. But my body betrayed me. Every nerve was lit, every memory of his touch flooding back like a dam bursting open.“Noah—” I tried, but the protest died when his thumb stroked lazy circles at the base of my spine.“You almost died last night,” he said, voice low and raw. “Do you know what that did to me? Watching them hold a gun to your head?” His forehead pressed against mine. “I can’t lose you again.”I swallowed hard, my chest heaving. “This isn’t the way—”“It’s the only way I know.”Then he kissed me.It wasn’t gentle. It wasn’t tenta
(Noah POV)The morning sun cast a golden hue over the city as I stepped out after the breakfast, golf clubs slung over my shoulder.Mia, my cousin, greeted me with her usual enthusiasm, her eyes sparkling with anticipation for our game. We decided to grab some chocolates from the grocery store before heading to the golf course. As Mia disappeared into the store, I leaned against the car, enjoying the warmth of the sun. Suddenly, a sleek, unfamiliar car sped past, catching my attention. Behind the tinted windows, I caught a glimpse of Elina. My heart skipped a beat. Isn't that Elina? Why was she in that car? Where was she going?I quickly texted Mia, "Emergency came up. Have to leave immediately. Sorry!" Without waiting for a reply, I jumped into my car and followed the vehicle. The car led me to the outskirts of the city, to a desolate area with a rundown old garage. I parked at a safe distance and observed. Elina and Cassie stepped out, looking around nervously before entering the bu
(Elina's POV)The room was heavy with silence as we were left with burning desires, broken only by the hum of the refrigerator and the occasional creak from the ceiling. Rain had just ended, leaving the glass windows of Elina’s penthouse streaked and blurred. The air inside still carried tension, remnants of chaos that had erupted the previous day.“You shouldn’t have come,” Elina said softly, breaking the silence in an attempt to distract Noah from whatever he wanted. Noah looked at her passionately. “You were about to be dragged out of that old garage if I stayed.”“I just didn’t want you involved. It was risky and may not have ended well”“But it did ended well, Elina. See, I’d always be involved in your life,” he said, clutching her closer with his breath heavier. “I’m your husband. When someone threatens you, they threaten me.”She lowered her eyes. “You saved us though.”“Well, you don’t have to say thank you,” he murmured. “But I want something from you.”She looked up. “What?
(Elina's POV)Noah. He was right there, staring. The dark glint in his eyes made every breath flee from my lungs. Still, the beauty in his eyes glowed, basking beneath. I didn't fail to see it.Amidst the looming chaos, his fineness seemed to pull me in and I found myself stunned in silence. Why was he here? I hadn't expected him?How did he even find us?Cassie was shocked to see Noah here even as I was. The huge man flinched, sweat dampened at his forehead. Fear—it was written all over but he soon shake it away.He seemed to be untouchable and rigid and I was astounded to how he was easily affected by Noah's presence."Hey, you have no business here whatsoever. Step away." He growled.Noah scoffed, his lips curling. "What if I don't? I came for her....." his eyes fell on me and I looked away shyly, "and I'm not leaving without her." He continued.Cassie gasped, "and what about me? You didn't come for me too?" Her face fell, tears welling up.Noah rolled his eyes at her, looking aw
(Elina's POV)"Calm down, Elinaa. You might get us into an accident." Cassie screamed as we sped through the city of Brooklyn in her car.I scoffed, rolling my eyes at her, "Damn, Cassie. We're talking about Henry here, how can I possibly drive like a sick snail while he's there in custody with....well I don't even know." I hissed, biting my bottom lip."Why did I even allow you drive in the first place? Me driving would've been better." Cassie wouldn't stop complaining and it was getting on my nerves—so much. "This could even be a prank." "Oh really?" I quirked a brow, my lips twitching with restrained laughter. "A prank that involves groans and cries for help?""Elina..." She whined.I heaved a sigh, trying to clear the frustration off but it only grew worse and I could feel an headache building up. "I know Jerry can be foolish at times but he's not as petty as this." "He's my ex and I know how stupid he can be. Remember that day he made me literally run out of that funky party,
