ARROW’S POV

"Okay, thank you very much," said the man whose voice was like a dingy summer breeze, and then he nodded to the crowd. But with the sudden laughter and chatter resuming in the room, the pair of strange-man-like eyes remained gazed on my face. It seemed as if he was studying me, and his expression was unreadable like a mask hiding true feelings. The very anticipation electrified the air, the crowd was like one huge buzzing hive of bees hovering around a sweet flower.

The ambience I could sense-bright smiles and exaggerated nods were everywhere as I scanned the room, like a sailor negotiating turbulent waters-even an iota of doubt was significantly possible, and I felt the heavy mantle of responsibility settle on my shoulders.

"I realize that this is no small task; yet one also knows there is someone, with the talent and creativity, who could certainly breathe life into 'Echoes in the Night,'" the voice had a clarity and confidence, almost bright, like the peal of a bell

KALMIA’S POV “From what?” she asked loudly. “From love? From healing? From your own happiness?” “From getting hurt again!” I cried, my voice breaking. “You don’t know what it felt like, Jade. Those words he said left me feeling completely empty. How worthless he made me feel.” She pulled away sharply like I had struck her with my hand. “I know I don’t,” she replied gently. “But I know what it looks like to lose yourself in bitterness. I saw you transform from someone who brightened every space to someone who struggles to face her reflection. My eyes burned from tears which I fought to control with furious blinking. “Don’t act as if you understand my best interests. She raised her hands up in exasperation. “Then what, Kalmia ? What do you want? From where I’m standing it sounds like you want everything to stay just the way they are in your anger.” Silence fell between us, painful and thick. A trembling breath escaped me as I quietly said “I need tranquility, Jade.” I long for

  • A DEAL WITH THE BILLIONAIRE   CHAPTER 142

KALMIA’S POVThe silence in Jade’s bedroom was deafening after I delivered the news.I could practically see the questions moving behind her eyes. Confusion, disbelief, shock. And then, something else. I faced something I had never seen directed towards me before.Jade stood slowly from her position before moving her nightgown around her ankles and she looked directly at me. Her face was stony. “Kalimia,” she said quietly, her voice both thick and dangerous, “if you aren’t going to return to Arrow… I can’t continue to let you live here.”I blinked at her. “Wh-what are you saying?” I asked dumbly, my throat tight.“You heard me,” Jade said sharply, her eyes flashing. “You’ve been here for weeks. I have supported you in all your endeavors but I cannot continue to give you shelter when you reject your family over prideful reasons.I felt the air leave my lungs. “Jade… how can you say that?”I spluttered, my eyes stinging with tears. “You don’t know what I’ve been through. You have no ide

  • A DEAL WITH THE BILLIONAIRE   CHAPTER 141

KALMIA’S POV I remained standing at my studio’s center while holding Arrow’s letter in one hand and my shattered feelings in the other. Aching heart, roaring pride, shattered mind. That’s when Jade walked back in, arms crossed, gaze fierce. No smile this time. She’d had enough of my merry-go-round nonsense. “No, Kalmia,” she stated plainly, words cutting through the silence. “I won’t let you do that to Arrow.” I whipped around to face her. “Excuse me?” I blinked in confusion. “Do what?” “Shut him out. Pretend like none of this matters. Like you don’t still care,” she said, advancing toward me. “You’re mad. I know. You should be. But don’t make him pay for doing what we prayed he’d finally do—change.” Heat swelled in my chest. “Jade, please. You can’t know what this man did to me. “I know I don’t,” she said, much quieter now. I witnessed how his actions affected you. My hands were holding yours while you cried yourself to sleep. Your body twisted inwards which made me think

  • A DEAL WITH THE BILLIONAIRE   CHAPTER 140

KALMIA’S POV I forcefully closed my eyes to convince myself that I could alter my decision. But that was the problem, wasn’t it? I was changing my mind. The pain of the past was an old ghost now, but so was the love. So was the man I had loved with my entire being. I swallowed, and opened my eyes. “I don’t know if I can just go back, Arrow,” I said quietly, unsure. “But I’ll try… for us. For our family.” “I’m willing to try…” I had said. But the moment he stepped closer, my entire body clenched. Like I’d been shot. Hit in that same old place. An old, old wound that hadn’t healed, not even close. I looked into his eyes and saw the man I had loved, the man who had been my entire world. But I also saw the man who had cut me open. Smiled down at me as I bled. The man who had humiliated me. Crushed me. And suddenly, I felt like I couldn’t breathe. “No,” I said, stepping back, harshly. My tender tone disappeared and memories rushed back with intense force. “No, I can’t do this. I

  • A DEAL WITH THE BILLIONAIRE   CHAPTER 139

KALMIA’S POV As I entered the shop I immediately noticed the smell of fabric and new sewing. It was so bright, still so open. The energy in here was different, though. I experienced a tingling sensation deep within my brain. A pleasant reminder of what I was here for. What I was doing this for. I had built this, I had created something I was proud of. But the past, that was something that would never leave me. That would always be with me. No matter where I went. No matter how hard I tried. And then I saw him. Arrow. Red and swollen eyes showed his sleepless state while his normally broad shoulders drooped in an unfamiliar manner. He looked broken. The aura of the man that I had fallen in love with was starting to fade, leaving the cracked husk behind. I felt a sudden stomach drop while my heart suffered an unwanted ache. I spent countless nights lying awake as I waited for him to appear. Begging him to come to me. Begging him to say that he was sorry. Begging him to take me

  • A DEAL WITH THE BILLIONAIRE   CHAPTER 138

ARROW’S POV The upcoming days passed slowly while I remained in a foggy state. Dawn remained my sole anchor to reality just like it always did. I'd wake up every morning to prepare breakfast and create the appearance of a composed father while internally feeling like I was falling apart. The burden of my actions towards Kalmia became too heavy for me to bear. Each day, it became clearer: without her, my life was incomplete. But that wasn’t the worst part. The devastating realization hit me that my attempts wouldn't make things better. A week had passed since I saw her face and heard her voice yet every text message and phone call to reach her resulted in no response. I couldn’t blame her. But still, it ate at me. My efforts were focused on maintaining smooth business operations. But something was missing. A gap. A hole no one could fill. During Kalmia’s absence I brought in new staff members to take charge of leading the team. The replacements had the experience and motivation nece
