ETHAN'S POV

The room fell silent for a moment.

"Why the tears?" Lilly asked in a harsher tone.

"He's once again denying killing Mom." Jasmine responded.

I shook my head violently, wiping at my tears. “No, Jasmine. You don’t understand. That’s not what happened that day at the river.”

She folded her arms, glaring, her wolf aura already surfacing, trying to make me cower. Lilly walked in.

“You think I’d forget the fact Mom drown because of you?” Jasmine hissed.

I lifted my head, and for the first time in years, I let the words spill out. “She didn’t drown because of me. She drowned because something pulled her under.”

Both their eyes flickered.

“Again with the lies." Jasmine scoffed.

I swallowed, forcing myself to meet their gazes. “I fell into the river, yes… but there was something there. A shadow. A wolf...no, not a wolf, not like us. Its eyes were bloody red, and it kept whispering in my head."
