"Trent set this whole thing up. He deliberately fought me for the land," Maria said, handing her phone to Richard.

In the video, Trent was having the time of his life. Anyone could see that this wasn't the demeanor of someone who had just escaped ruin.

Maria thought Richard would be furious at being manipulated by Trent in this way, but Richard showed no anger at all. He handed her phone back, replying nonchalantly, "That's just how Trent is. He distracts himself with something fun whenever something happens so he won't get depressed being alone."

Maria slowly frowned.

Richard smiled and pinched her cheek. "Don't overthink it. I'll get that land back for you."

A flicker of mockery passed through Maria's eyes. By the time he got it back, she would be nothing but ashes.
