CHAPTER FIVE

“You came.” Daya said surprisingly as I walked into the dining room. The table was so scanty that I could count how many there was. Two minus me and Daya.

“Aren't there like sixteen people in the house?”

“Most of the guards prefer to eat outside and most of the maids eat in their rooms. It's only me, little axel and Gloria.”

I looked at the two little toddlers surprisingly.

“Why? Are those kids yours?”

Daya cheeks turned pink and she blinked shyly. “No way! I'm still a virgin waiting on my special someone.”

I chuckled at how cute she was. It was pretty wild for someone as attractive as her to be a virgin.

“I can pop your cherry if you'd like.” I winked and Daya cheeks turned a brighter shade of red and she stared back at her feet while scratching the side of her neck nervously.

“So whose kids are they?” I asked while walking towards the table.

“Umm.. one of the maid's that was killed years ago. She was allowed to give birth to her babies before she was killed.” Daya said in a low tone.

My heart dropped and I turned to look at Daya.

“He..”

Daya nodded, confirming my suspicions.

“So.. they're his c-children?”

“I don't know the full story so I cannot say. I thought you'd know though..”

Thinking back, I remembered the rumours about the maid flying about but I was ill and under medication. I couldn't see anyone in case I couldn't control my hunger and hurt someone.

I would ask Maximilian when he came back.

“I didn't know a thing about it.” I said.

“Aunt Daya! Is this the really pretty princess you tell me and Axel stories about every night?” The blonde little girl with blue eyes asked innocently.

Her and her brother had really blonde hair and blue eyes. Mostly soft features and none of it looked similar to Maximilian's.

He had a sharp jawline that could probably cut through through an apple. Sharp and beautiful nose, high cheek bones, thick eyebrows and soft plump lips.

But then.. Genetics could be tricky.

It was best to ask in person.

“uh.. guys say hello to Cyra.”

“Hello little princess!” The kids squealed while waving at me enthusiastically.

“Hello.” I said while taking a seat on the table.

“I'm Ingrid and my brother's name is Axel. Our auntie, Daya has told us a lot about you.”

I looked at Daya for an explanation but she didn't say anything. Just then, Helen and Bosvana walked in with trays containing rice and vegetables with some separate plates for beef.

“Enjoy.” Helen said after setting the table. Bosvana only walked out without a word.

I grabbed a plate of rice and well garnished vegetables, earning a look from Daya.

“You don't eat meat?”

I smiled, “I've always been a vegetarian.”

The twins looked at themselves, “But vampires can't hold out for long without meat.”

“You're right.” I said.

I didn't know how long I could hold on to only eating vegetables but I couldn't give up my principles just to live.

“So you're not a vampire? You do smell a bit different.”

“I am Cyra and that's what matters.”

Axel nodded, “You have a point but the species we identify with is important. If you don't belong to any coven then, how can you be truly happy?”

“I have a cave where I worship my own bravery and strength. It is as powerful as a coven and I'm happy with it.”

“That is so unusual, princess.”

“Oh.” I giggled, a little bit flattered. “I'm not a princess.”

“You have a nice smile too.”

We were interupted by the opening of doors and a loud voice,

“Cyra, the Lord is back!” Jacob announced.

I was a bit stunned. Why was he back so early?

Without any further thought, I shoved more food down my throat and dunk down the wine despite Jacob's complaints.

“Is the Lord of the castle your husband?” Ingrid asked while leaning towards me over the table.

“We're just acquaintances.” I said. Then cringed when I heard myself.

Acquaintances?!

“Daya, it was nice dining with you and the twins but i think I should go now.”

I stood up from the table and Daya did as well.

“It's okay. Thank you for sparing the time. I hope to bump into you when you're not busy, peharps the library?”

I smiled. Was she hinting I meet her sometime at the library?

“Sure, I'll see you later.”

Daya bit her bottom lip nervously and the twins waved at me enthusiastically.

“Goodbye princess!”

“See you later.” I said before walking out of the dinning room.

On the way to the kitchen, I saw Jacob as expected, holding a tray of cold bottled water, a glass cup and some cookies.

“He looks like he's in a very bad mood. He had blood in his hands.”

“Oh. Then can you change the bottled water to a lukewarm bottled water and pack some dried fruits for me.”

“I got you, Cyra.”

Jacob nodded and disappeared into the kitchen. I sighed and leaned against the wall while thinking of what mood of Maximilian I would have to deal with today.

I still had some poison I hid in my room but I wasn't sure if I should use it.

Jacob said Maximilian was angry when he walked in after all. If he caught on..

“Here, Cyra.”

I looked up and nodded to Jacob thankfully and accepted the tray from his hand.

“Open up.” He said with a small grin.

I opened my mouth wide when I saw a piece of chocolate in between Jacob's fingers.

He slipped the chocolate into my mouth and i licked the heavenly taste in my mouth.

“Thanks! My taste bud is usually bad but this chocolate hits!”

“I got it from the market when grocery shopping.”

“Oh. Please get more next time, I really like this one. It's up to my taste.”

“I have three more but I'll give them all to you.” Jacob passed the small chocolate cubes to my side pocket and I smiled.

“You're the best Jacob. See you later.”

Jacob nodded and I started walking up the stairs.
