CHAPTER 4: XENOS BITCH

LILITH’ POV

The hard cold stares are even much worse than it had been at my pack, and I walk past every single one of them, wondering why and yet keeping my distance.

How exactly am I going to integrate into this system when no one wants to talk to me? There’s no chance of getting a good whiff of even a bit of gossip from anyone.

I haven’t met a single soul here that isn’t hostile towards me, all taking after their psycho Alpha.

I walk past a couple practically glaring bitterly at me.

“Xenos bitch.” He growls ferally.

It takes everything in me not to turn right back and go full wolf out on his ass, but I don’t.

Years of tolerance helps me quell my blood thirsty burst of anger from the demeaning comment.

He isn’t worth it, Lilith.

Instead, I smile at the fucker, waving back at him and watching him flinch back like he suddenly has a stroke.

Acting unaffected is the best way possible to deal with assholes, and my wolf nods in agreement.

I walk a bit more, hoping to find something, perhaps someone that’s not staring daggers my way. Then I hear screaming coming.

The next image I see has me halting at the spot.

A group of boys, the oldest not past 14, all gathered around the littlest girl covered in mud.

Something within me is instantly triggered.

I dash forward without thinking, gripping the ears of the first tall child I see, pulling him aside with the lobe and then the next, till I reach her — the poor little angel covered in bruises.

“Get away from her, you little runts.” I say to them, growling before turning back to the sobbing child crouched into a protective ball.

From her size, she’s probably not older than 7 or 8, skinny and mostly not outspoken. Even when I gently touch her arm, she flinches away from me.

“Hey… are you okay?” I call to her, and she barely looks up at me, giving me only a glance.

“It’s okay, sweetheart. Where are your parents?” I ask the scared child as gently as I can.

Who lets an unsupervised kid out alone, especially in this kind of neighborhood?

Just when I begin thinking the situation is mildly settled, the first stone crashes into the side of my head harshly before I realize it, taking me off guard.

It is followed by laughter and chanting by the rest of the little bastards.

“Haha… get the old lady harder.” Another yells out loudly just before another stone hits, followed by a shower of rotten tomatoes from the rest of them.

My patience has run thin. What kind of horrible people let their little devils roam free? I step up, ready to dish out a bit… just a little bit of my rage for the first time.

Before I can though, someone suddenly runs into the scene, swinging a leaf rake in the air.

“Get out!” She screams, swinging her rake viciously at them. “Get out of here before I report you!” She yells even louder.

They all run off, scattering like ants, giggling as well.

Once they're all gone, she tosses the rake aside, rushing towards the little girl and engulfing her in the warmest hug.

“Mia!” She exclaims, taking a look at every cut and bruise on her fragile skin.

“Kiki.” The little girl explodes into more tears now that she’s been saved by this new woman, bawling her eyes out uncontrollably.

From the interaction, I can already tell that they are family. The whole scene reminds me of my brother Jonah instantly.

The once little sickly kid bawling his eyes out at every chance he got, just for his sister to come save him every time.

I had gotten more than a few bruises and cuts trying to save his ass, but regretted nothing, ever.

The two finally turn to me once the whole crying session is over with thankful looks.

“Thank you for protecting her from those little demons.” The older one speaks up, rising to my level. Seeing her now, it’s clear that we are almost similar in age.

“You don’t have to thank me… I’m just shocked that no one else did something to those runts and just let them bully her. Is she okay?”

Her smile quickly turns sad, holding the little girl's hand.

“Hopefully she will be. I’m Kierra.” She extends her hands to me, and I reach forward, taking it.

“Lilith, I’m sort of new here...”

“Yeah, I can tell easily. Rumors about a new Xenos spreads pretty fast around here.”

Again, that word. This is probably the fifth time I’m hearing it from someone.

“Sorry, I hope you don’t mind me asking… What the hell is a Xenos? Is it some kind of disease? Is that why everyone’s been staring at me like I’ve committed murder?”

She sighs, suddenly looking extremely dejected.

“Xenos are basically outsiders, intruders. Here at Deathstone pack, most wolves aren’t too accepting of outsiders or anything new in particular. It’s like a sickness everyone’s got and spreading it to their kids.” She explains, caressing the little girl’s hair gently.

Well, that explains a lot.

“Mia here is essentially my half-sister. Her mother was a Xenos before she died. Scorned and hated up until her death. Her body wasn’t even allowed to be buried anywhere within the pack. That hatred has been passed on to Mia now, I guess. Kids bully her with every chance they get in the meanest ways possible.”

“That’s just sick, going after a little girl simply because she’s not fully a member of the pack.”

“Yeah it is, but no one really cares. We can’t really complain to anyone here. While you’re here, you should probably be careful as well.” She looks at me pitifully, sympathizing with the future shit I’m going to have to live through, simply because I’m some fucking outsider?

Bullshit.

“Can’t anyone do something about this? I mean, if I had gotten here any later, only the goddess knows what could have happened to her.”

“My bad, I didn’t know she had gotten out of the house…” She tries to explain herself to me.

“No, you don’t need to apologize to me.” I groan, rubbing the temples of my head.

I should mind my business and just stay focused on the mission in front of me.

She’s the only friendly face I’ve seen since being here. This is the perfect opportunity to get info, the right amount of info I need.

But no, my anger has already far gone reasoning at this point. I’ve tried to be nice with these crazy people — holding my tongue, and being polite.

I’ve tried to be tolerant of that bastard of an Alpha without a shred of human emotions in his body, but no more.

I’m going to take this up personally.

I immediately begin heading towards the other direction.

“Where are you going!” Kierra calls out to me.

“To get something done about this.” I say, gnashing on my teeth.

“But… but you’re injured!” She yells out to me before I’m out of hearing range.

Regardless, I walk forward without any thought other than finally giving him a piece of my mind.

I walk all the way back to the main pack building, right up to the front door, kicking it open and storming right in.

However, the moment I set my foot in, a group of guards wasted no time in lifting me off my feet instantly.

I’m taken aback at first before I begin kicking and screaming.

“What the fuck? Let me go!” I fight against their holds, but it's relentless.

I could take two, maybe ripping their eyes off with my claws, but not four.

I consider shifting for a moment, but that would simply cause too much of a commotion, more than I need, and I definitely need to lay low till I get the blood scroll.

Damn it all to shit.

They don’t listen to me, ignoring all my squirming and drag me right across the hallway where more than enough eyes can watch me perfectly.

There’s more whispering and mumbling than before. The entire scenario almost looks like an execution scene, while I let myself be dragged to wherever.

“If it isn’t my little lost sheep.” His deep voice vibrates from his throat in this low growl that momentarily sends shivers down my spine.

I look up at Alpha Kain, pissed off and almost bloodthirsty, staring down at me like the purest filth he has had the disadvantage of meeting.

“It seems you’ve not been properly briefed on the rules around here. My leniency seems to have given you the effrontery to move about as you please, hasn’t it?” He snaps, almost wanting to bite my head off.

That’s right, I had snuck out minutes ago and blatantly walked right through the front door.

Oops.

“Where the hell have you been?”

His whole countenance is much different than before. An hour ago, he was desperately trying to get me away from him and now, he wants to know where I’ve been?

It takes a moment for me to snap out of the momentary shock and remember why I am here again.

“Away from you like you had requested.” I quip back uncontrollably, still pissed with our earlier encounter.

I wasn’t one to hold grudges or let my distasteful emotions show. I have no idea what’s come over me, but I can’t take any of it anymore.

“I see you’ve dropped the whole innocent act you’ve been going with and suddenly grown too much confidence.”

“I see you’re as much of a devil as the rumors depict.” I snap back, my breath grows more rushed.

Shut the fuck up, Lilith!

“Are you aware of the kind of treatment your people dish out to others simply because they're different? Do you realize a little girl got stoned oday, thankfully not to death?” I open my mouth more against my control.

He remains unaffected by more words, still livid about my defiance rather than actual pack matters going on right under his nose.

“I see, that explains the filthy look you’re putting up right now.”

“Excuse me?”

“Listen here.” He grips onto my cheeks painfully.

He limits my ability to speak again while his eyes turn animalistic.

“Once again, I will forgive your disobedience, blame it on your ignorance. You’re new, you don’t know the rules. You don’t realize how things work around here. As a benevolent ruler, I’ll personally give you a bit of advice.” He loosens his grip, giving me the chance to forcefully pull away from him.

My cheeks sting painfully and I already know it’s going to bruise, but I don’t whimper away or bow my head in fear.

I look him straight in the eye.

“The first rule you need to know is, my word is law… and by that very same law, you abide by everything I tell you without questioning or talking back.”

He raises the bloodied finger, taking his time to lick up every bit of the liquid from my injury, sucking on his thumb till it’s completely gone.

Like a psychopath.

His green eyes glint dangerously at me.

“Secondly, do not entertain any kind of independent thought. You’re nothing but an object whose sole duty is pleasure. If you fail your purpose, you’re useless to me and we all know where useless things belong.”

“The trash.” I mutter.

“Good.” He says coldly, leaning close and pressing his lips against mine forcefully.

He takes them like I’m nothing, like I’m just a chunk of flesh made for his own satisfaction.

Disgust churns within my belly.

He finally lets me go, pulling away from my lips and dropping my face roughly.

“Lock her up in her room till whenever I call for her again.” He says one last time just before he walks away.

The guards pick me up effortlessly, dragging me back to my room and from the corner of my eye I see her, Yvonne, hiding amidst the crowd of onlookers, snickering from her own enjoyment.
