CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas

.

Chapter THIRTEEN

.

He looked into his mate’s eyes, pleading with him to understand.

He felt like an asshole.

His mate thought that he didn’t want to publicly claim her then he dumped her at the apartment building to fend for herself when no one knew her and rushed to work.

The deal was important, but Atlas was going to have to think about Anais now, too. And their pup. Suddenly, the situation got a lot more serious.

“Have you been out here the whole time?” he practically growled.

He saw Anais’s eyes widen a fraction as the omega stiffened.

Atlas gritted his teeth and controlled his alpha.

“I’m sorry, alpha, I didn’t know what else to do.”

He pulled Anais to him and tucked his nose into her neck.  “I’m not angry with you, Ana, I’m angry with myself.”  He sighed and stroked her back.

Anais relaxed slightly and Atlas was able to let go of a little tension too.

“First thing tomorrow, we’ll get you a cell phone so that you can always reach me.  I’ll have the staff notified that you’re living here with me and you are my mate so this won’t happen again.”

He pulled away and stood up, pulling Anais along with him.  The omega still looked pale and sweaty.  He looked at her carefully.

“Is something else wrong?” he asked.

Anais shook her head.  “Just a little light headed is all.  I haven’t eaten anything since breakfast so-“

Atlas did growl then. His mate and his pup had been on the street alone, without food or protection or shelter.  He was failing at being a good alpha for her.

“Hey, alpha, it’s okay.  I’m fine.  Pup and I are ok, but I think I need to eat.”

Atlas nodded.  “Yes, you do.  Hold on.”  He turned to the car where Alfie waited patiently in the driver’s seat.

He motioned for him to come over and the beta quickly got out of the car.  Cas reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet.

“Alfie, I hate to ask, but Anais hasn’t eaten anything in hours and needs to right away.  Will you run to the corner and get a few sandwiches from the deli for me?  I’m sorry to ask,” Atlas told him.

He didn’t like to take advantage of his staff when they had a specific job, but he found that he would do whatever it took at that moment to make Anais comfortable.

Alfie, bless him, nodded immediately.

Atlas could see the concern on the beta’s face as well.  He handed him more than enough and Alfie set off down the road.

There was a corner deli there that had subs and salads that would be both nutritious and filling for Anais.  They also had a premade sub case, so Alfie should just be able to grab a sandwich and bring it back quickly.

In the meantime Atlas was going to get her upstairs to rest.  He pocketed his wallet again and pulled Anais into his side.

Anais let him guide her to the door but stiffened when they got closer to where the doorman was.

“It’s alright, Anais.  Everything will be fine and I’ll make sure that you’re able to come into your home.”

She nodded slightly and pulled away to stand on her own a bit more. Ana was strong and Atlas was proud of how she handled herself.  In fact, he was very impressed about how Anais had handled herself over the last twenty-four hours.

Atlas nodded at the doorman and touched Anais’s arm.  “Mick, this is Ana, my mate,” Atlas told him.

The doorman smiled widely and greeted Anais.

“Welcome home, Omega Hawke,” he said.

“Thank you,” Anais said quietly.

“You’ll make sure to help her in and out with anything she needs,” Atlas continued.

Atlas didn’t phrase it as a question.  He wanted to make a point to let Anais know he was serious about protecting her.

Mick nodded again and smiled even more widely.  “Yes, alpha, it will be my pleasure.  Just let me know if you need anything Omega Hawke.”

Atlas nodded and looked to Anais, who smiled back before they continued into the building.  She stiffened again when they moved past the concierge desk and Atlas looked over sharply.

Zachariah was standing there with narrowed eyes and Atlas knew he was the one that had made her leave.

Zachariah wasn’t a bad alpha, but he enjoyed his position of authority in the building and didn’t hesitate to use it when he wanted.

“Ah,” Atlas murmured.  He steered Anais towards the desk and he could feel the hesitation in her footsteps and scent it on her.  Atlas wanted to get Anais upstairs as quickly as possible, but he also needed to make sure this didn’t happen again.

“Zachariah,” Atlas said as they got closer.

“Alpha Hawke,” Zachariah greeted him.  “How may I help you?”

“Zachariah, this is my mate, Anais,” Atlas introduced her.

He saw Zachariah’s eyes widen slightly and Atlas felt a little satisfaction knowing the alpha could be in trouble if he wanted to press the issue.

“I know there was some confusion earlier, so I wanted to make sure the entire staff was aware that I have mated and that Anais should have full access to the building.  I appreciate your vigilance, but I don’t want her to be barred from her home.”

“Certainly,” Zachariah told him smoothly.

He turned to Anais and Atlas was glad to see the hostility was gone and the smile on his face looked genuine.  His scent was muted with blockers, but his body language was open and Anais relaxed.

“My apologies, Omega Hawke.  Welcome home and congratulations.”

“Thanks,” Anais whispered.

Atlas nodded at the concierge and turned Anais toward the elevators.

Alfie came running in with a bag of food and Atlas thanked him before they got on the elevator. When the doors shut, Atlas could scent Anais clearly in the confined space.

He scented the air and he could tell that she was exhausted.  Her resignation and sadness hung heavy in the air and Atlas pulled Anais closer to him.  Anais readily tucked herself into Atlas’ side and the alpha rubbed his jaw over her head.

It was still strange and awkward, but Anais was his mate and they needed each other in a way that he wasn’t used to.

Atlas wasn’t a stranger to omegas and he knew how to care for a partner, but having a mate who was bonded to him was new and since it was unexpected they hadn’t formed any attachment before hand to help with the transition.

Atlas sighed and squeezed Ana gently.

She responded by nuzzling into Atlas’ neck and he was pleased to scent Anais’s mood lighten.

The elevator dinged and Atlas stepped into the apartment with Anais.  He reminded her that Eileen was there and scented Anais’s resignation and sadness.

He wondered what was going on there, but he didn’t have time to worry about it now.  He needed to feed her and get her rested.

Eileen popped her head out from the kitchen having been alerted to the elevator by the light doorbell.  The welcoming smile dropped when she saw Anais and she came forward.

“What happened?” she asked.

Atlas held the bag to her and she took it from him.  “She needs to eat and rest.  Can you plate those and bring them upstairs?”

She nodded and turned away with the food.  Atlas didn’t let Anais out of his arms and guided her upstairs and into his room. He helped Anais lay down on the bed and took her shoes off.  The omega closed her eyes and Atlas sat on the edge of the bed with her.

He wasn’t sure what to do.  Should he lay down with Anais?  Should he just stay there?  His indecision must have leaked into his scent because Anais reached for him.

“Lay with me,” She said softly.

Atlas slipped off her own shoes and curled up behind his mate.  Anais’s body relaxed further as Atlas pulled her into his chest and he felt his own body relax at the touch of his mate.

It was strange the way they were linked together despite only knowing each other a handful of days.

Atlas slipped his hand down Anais’s stomach to rest over the still flat surface.

It was hard to believe that there was a pup there too, but he could scent it on Anais. It was faint and he hadn’t really been close enough to smell Anais deeply since they were with the doctor, but he could now.

He tucked his nose into Anais’s neck and drew in deep breaths of the sweet scent.

They lay like that for a few minutes before there was a gentle knock on the door.

Atlas called out and Eileen entered with two plates of food and water bottles.  She smiled at them and set the plates on the dresser across the room.

“Can I get you anything else?” she asked.

Atlas shook his head.  “No thank you, Eileen.  I think we are ok if you want to go home.”

She nodded and cast a smile at his mate before she left the room quietly.  Atlas stroked Anais’s arm and nuzzled her neck again.

“Ana, let’s eat something, then we can nap, ok?”

“Okay, alpha,” his mate responded.

Atlas fed Anais and they lay back down together on top of the covers. Anais was asleep in minutes and Atlas followed soon after.
