The Pack Medical Center was quiet in the early morning hours. Most patients were still asleep, the corridors dimly lit with silver-lined lamps that wouldn't aggravate sensitive wolf eyes. I found Marie sitting outside Anna's treatment room, her shoulders hunched with exhaustion.

"May I join you?" I asked softly.

Marie looked up, her tired eyes registering surprise at my presence. She nodded, shifting slightly to make room on the bench.

I sat beside her, allowing a moment of silence to settle between us. The weight of what I needed to discuss felt heavy on my shoulders. Phoebe stirred anxiously beneath my skin.

"Anna asked me to speak with you," I began carefully.

Marie's posture stiffened immediately. "The Pack Medical Council sent you, didn't they?"

"No," I assured her quickly. "This is just between us. Between mothers and daughters."

Her eyes narrowed with suspicion. "You don't have children."

"No," I admitted. "But I was someone's daughter once."
