It’s her. It’s my mate. I looked at the girl from afar using my enhanced vision. I can’t be seen closer to the guesthouse and I know I’m breaking the rules but fuck! I can’t stand the sweet scent lingering all over my pack since they arrive. Since she arrive. She is tall, and even from those shabby clothes, I can tell she’s fit and curvy. Her long golden-brown hair has natural curls at the edge. I love how the shape of her eyes matches her high cheekbone and- Oh, fuck. Not again. I can feel my cock reacting from just looking at her. And even from this distance, her scent is intoxicating that I can’t help but be enticed by it. Fuck. If only I’m not an Alpha, I won’t have this much control! I might have run down this hill to reach her, claim her, mark her, kiss her--ohh, fuck!

Lucianna’s POV
It's impossible to contain the overwhelming joy I'm into right now. I feel like dancing though there is no music, I want to sing but I can't find the right song which left me hum and giggle every other second! If someone sees me like this, they'd think I lost my sanity.
And I feel like I will soon!
"Let's run, Ash!"
I was talking with my best girl over the phone, Ashira. It's been days since the mapping and I finally know where my mate is! He's from the Shadow pack!
Mapping is a pack tradition. Every pack in every region do it once a year for She-Wolves to locate where their mate resides.
The mate bond of females will be activated once at the age of eighteen. The Mapping is the guide for us to find our mates, then we will travel to that pack to attend the Mapping Ball.
The only party I ever dreamed to be in!
Ahhhh! Finally!
"I can't. I need to do some things."
I rolled my eyes. "Come on! I'll leave the pack tomorrow! Don't tell me we won't bond before we go? And! You haven't told me why you run off after the mapping! From which pack is your mate? You didn't say a thing!"
"I don't want to go out. Just come here if you want and I'll tell you."
I snorted. "Fine. I'll train for a bit then I'll stop by your house."
"Okay."
I hung up the call with a wrinkled nose. Ashira is no fun! Well, she's always like that since I met her. I'm the noisy type, the extrovert and she's the silent one.
Hmm, maybe that was the reason that I befriended her when I saw her at training. She's easy to be with, and she's okay with my noisiness.
I shrugged to myself.
I'm an orphan. My parents were killed in a war with the rogues when I was eight years old and the pack took care of my needs since then. I kept living alone without any guardian, but the pack constantly visits from time to time to check on me.
I went out with my training equipment. I'm one of the best fighters of the North Region, won various exhibitions with Prime pack and Trivian pack She-Wolf Fighters Game.
Ever since my parents died, I decided to make myself strong. To improve to protect me and to fight for my pack.
"Hey, Lucy."
I stopped and looked at who called my name. It was Gamma Sol, the Alpha's third-in-command.
"Goodmorning, Gamma." I bowed slightly, showing respect.
"So you found your mate? Is he from the North?" I nodded. "Which pack?"
I smiled sheepishly, excited and proud of the person I'm yet to know, but I'm sure is worthy of my praises.
"He's from Shadow pack." I grinned and Gamma Sol laughed at my reaction.
"I can tell you're happy." he laughed once more when I scratch the back of my head. "Well, I can see you're out here to train. Don't build some muscles or you'll scare your mate, okay?." he grinned.
"Oh, I won't! I'll give him the beauty he can't resist, Gamma."
We laughed before parting ways. Gamma Sol is always like that to me. He's old and will stoop down on his position as third-in-command when his son turned twenty-one, I became close with him because he was the one who visits me often when I was young and alone.
After my daily training, I went straight to Ashira's house and found her sulking in their living room. I can't sense anyone in the house so she's probably alone.
"Hey, where's your brother?"
Cruz is not her real brother. She's a lone wolf before Beta Eric found and keep her but they treated her like their own blood.
"I don't know. I woke up and everyone's not home."
"Hmmm." I slumped on their couch and looked at my phone. Ah. I can't stop looking at the time and date. "So! Where is your prince charming?"
I could tell that my eyes were sparkling as I wait for her response. I didn't have the chance to know the result of her mapping because she ran away, shifting in the air and showing off her white wolf.
Ah! I envy how beautiful her wolf is.
Mine is the same color as my hair. A shiny golden-brown wolf but taller than Ashira because of my long-legged gift. I got that from my height from my father. Oh, damn. I hope my mate is taller than me.
Well, like I could choose, right? Whatever he looks like, he'll still look perfect in my eyes once I met him. How I love how mate bond works!
"Prime pack," she said with a bored expression. Ugh! This girl is killing off my vibe of enthusiasm!
I decided to ignore her lack of interest in the mate bond and focused on the news I just heard.
"Wow! Ash! That's the strongest pack of the North!"
The continent was divided into four Regions. The East, West, South, and North. Each region has groups of the pack and our North holds five.
First is the Prime pack, the strongest. The Shadow pack comes second where my future baby daddy lives. Oh, yes! The third is the Trivian pack then my pack, Regal, comes fourth. The fifth and last on the list is the Ravenous pack.
They have strength in numbers and skills and that's how they rate which was the strongest. Same with the Alpha.
As of now, Alpha Aiden of the Prime pack is the strongest of the North. The Alpha's strength comes from the members of its pack which mean the larger they grow, the stronger the Alpha becomes.
"I'm not interested in these mate thing."
I rolled my eyes.
"Wait until you met your mate, I'll bet you'll fall on your knees." I stuck my tongue out and she just sighed. "When will you depart?"
"The day after tomorrow. You?"
"Tomorrow is when they scheduled me. Shadow pack is farther, huh?"
Ashira nodded. Oh, sweet Lord. My energy is reducing from Ashira's absentmindedly behavior. What's wrong with this girl?
I decided to shut my mouth. Maybe she's lonely that she'll leave the pack?
Hmm…
Just when I'm in deep thoughts, Cruz entered the front door, catching our attention.
"Where have you been?" Ash asked with a low voice.
"At the Hall. Ahhh! What a busy day." he slumped himself tiredly on the couch beside me. "Hey, Luce." he greeted but he's not looking my way, just closing his eyes.
"Hi. What's up at the Hall?"
He exhaled. "Well, the Alpha of Shadow pack was supposed to visit for a meeting but he canceled at the last minute."
"That's weird," Ashira commented. Oh, so she's here, huh? I thought she's still in her other owned world. "Dad mentioned that it was an important meeting."
"It is and he is weird. I heard Alpha Jacob was about to enter the border when he backed off."
"I don't think that's weird." I need to defend the pack where I'll soon belong! "Maybe they got something important to do."
Cruz shrugged. "Still. That's inappropriate."
I pouted. Why am I even defending that pack when I'm yet a member of it? Will I see my mate on the mapping ball?
What if he's out for a mission? Nooo! Then I needed to wait for another year to rejoin another mapping ball?!
Oh, fuck! What if he died on the mission?!
No!!!
"I need to go and pack."
"This early? You'll leave the next day, pack tomorrow and stay." Ashira insisted.
"I can't! I'm too excited!" I stoop up and stopped when Cruz laughed.
"You sure can't wait to meet your mate, Luce," he said.
I rolled my eyes at him.
"What I can't wait is to have my own family. Duh."
I walked out and shouted my goodbyes when I reached the door.
It was sad but it is true.
To have my children with a loving husband, to be able to feel living in what I could call my home.
I managed to live alone all these years but it does not mean I'm not longing for a family. And since I know it's impossible to bring back my parents' life, I started dreaming of building my own family to experience the warmth of what I seemed to forget.
That's what I'm after with this mate thing.
Oh, and the sex, of course.
Lucianna's POV“Fhoxia,” I called when we are all gathered in front of the messenger. “This is Quillon, you understand each other, right?”As if I understand that Fhoxia would not respond, I looked at Quillon and wait for what he has heard. Not just me, but everyone of us.“She says ‘the time is near’,” Quillon said, looking straight at Fhoxia. “Her task in this realm has ended but she couldn’t leave until she got to help. That is why she can no longer speak and why she was starting to join the wind.”The tears couldn’t stop itself from forming into my eyes. So that is why Fhoxia hasn’t responded to any of us. This is the reason and she stays just to help us.“Did she find out anything to help?” Jacob asked. All of us are stunned with what Quillon said but Jacob recovered first. “Any cure?”Quillon was patiently waiting for what Fhoxia has answered. The silence made my head swirl in thoughts, mixed emotions and ideas. But from it all, the silent prayer I did in the back of my head sho
Lucianna’s POV“Why proceed with it, then?” Aiden asked, wincing a bit from the heaviness of his words. I just told them about the Shadow eye and the curse of it because of a mishap that the first born didn’t inherit the gift.“Aiden! You can't tell a mother to get rid of her pup.” Ashira answered, agitated on my behalf. Aiden looked at me with apologizing gaze but the way his jaw clenched tells me his vote is just the same as Roscoe’s.“I actually tried to.” the sigh that came out of my lips was cold as memories came rushing.“Ohmy! Luce!” my friend's eyes were wide from shock, covering her mouth and tears forming on her eyes.My smile has shame lingering on it. This is a new emotion on my part. I always thought that I haven't done anything wrong when I decided to went with Roscoe on that cave. Maybe its because this is the first time I talked about it with a person of a same gender. Plus, Ash is a mother now so she can relate more than I could imagine how horrible what I did. I su
Lucianna’s POVRoscoe came and as soon as he get off his car, we exchanged a look that lasts for almost a minute. There was a lot in our eye language and it’s more like him saying ‘I told you so,’ and mine were ‘We’re in this situation so fucking try and talk with your mate’s body’. I saw his shoulder sagged as he sighed but headed to where Fhoxia was as if he read my mind.I really hope Roscoe can get something, anything, from Fhoxia. He does before, he still felt the bond between him and his mate’s body that the messenger borrowed. So I hoped, keep on hoping, there’s nothing I could do anyway.“He’s been there for how long?” Harley asked behind me.Time has reached a spot on top of my list that I prioritized to forget, so I just shrugged Harley’s question. Now watching Roscoe has made me feel dreaded in the guts so I decided to head inside and sit on the couch. Harley lingered longer by the porch, watching my brother-in-law like a hawk.I don’t know if I feel excited or anxious with
Lucianna’s POV“She’s creepy.” Harley commented as we drank coffee out at the porch. “How long has she been here?”“One week now.” I sighed. “I keep on asking her why she’s here but she won’t talk. Roscoe won’t be here until later this evening but he told me over the phone that Fhoxia didn’t reached out to him either.”“It means this messenger has no message to deliver? So, what, just being nosy?”I scoffed. “Bite me, I don’t know either.”“And Roscoe will be here? Jacob finally permitted his return?”Jacob gave a temporary ban for Roscoe after what happened in the cave. My mate hated the idea that his brother kept on deciding things for him.“Yeah, he only agreed this morning. He didn’t want to, I just convinced him since Roscoe might be the one Fhoxia could talk to or something.”“And that is why?”I sighed and nudged my mug at the messenger’s direction . “That body was borrowed from a dead woman. The dead woman was Roscoe’s mate.” Harley’s jaw dropped and before he could pry more,
A month has passed. A cough coming from our bedroom made me jumped from my deep thoughts. I was having my coffee in the kitchen and Jacob was at our bedroom. Laying down on our bed even when the sun has shone for an hour and a half. Not because he feel lazy to go to the Hall like he used to, but because he has become weak. His eyes had sunken with dark circles under it, there’s hollow in his cheeks, his skin has become dull and dry and no matter how much I put lipbalm in his lips, it keeps on cracking. His body was not as strong as he was. And everyday he get worse.I can barely look at him in this state but the only time I wasn’t by his side were morning like this. I drink my coffee alone then I’d cry my heart out without making a sound and spend the rest of my day beside him again. This is the time I used to outlet my sadness, fear and every other emotion I couldn’t show in front of him. There was still no news about another way. There’s still no another way and I lose the hope on
I was asked to lay down on a stone table. The coldness touched the bare skin of my back and arms, making my eyes shut hard.“No need to be scared,” the enchantress said, standing on my side while rummaging into a box of small bottles. A potion, maybe?Harley and Roscoe are on the other side of the cave, or the enchantress’s home, as she calls it. There’s no way they would hear our conversation.“Will it hurt?” I asked in a low, trembling voice. The enchantress looked straight into my eyes and there was something in the way she look at me. She was saying something, her eyes were saying something. She doubted my resolve in continuing with this procedure, I know that was what she think.“It will sting.” she smiles but arched a brow, as if testing if I will back down. But I closed my eyes and relaxed.“You’re not scared.” she stated, not asked. It was as if a question in her head was answered.I sighed, long and painful. “No.”“I want to know why,” she demanded with a tone that she wouldn
Lucianna’s POVI cut off the portal I shared with Jacob, feeling the severed connection like a heavy weight lifting from my chest—and yet, a gnawing pit settled in my stomach. It was better this way. He didn’t need to know where I was going, especially for what I was about to do. The decision had been far from easy, but once I made up my mind, there was no turning back. I wouldn’t allow myself to back down.“Calm down, gamma,” Roscoe’s chuckle was low, rough, and filled the silence like an unwanted echo. “You look so pale, I’d wonder if your blood left your veins.” His voice trailed off, almost as if he were talking to himself—though in a car full of werewolves, he knew better. I sighed, a breath that didn’t even begin to ease the tension coiled tightly within me.“Cut it out, Roscoe,” I muttered, my voice steady though my mind was racing. I could feel Harley next to me, practically vibrating with barely suppressed irritation. “Just drive.”The sleek growl of the engine hummed beneath
Jacob hadn’t returned home since last night and I haven’t slept a blink. Thinking over and over again about my decision, I cried all night and prayed, continuously apologizing to the unborn child in my womb.“You called for me?”It was Harley. Of course I called for him, I needed someone by my side right now and since Jacob was against this idea, I had to call for someone who wouldn’t turn down my heeding.“Yes.” I wiped my face and stood up. I probably looked like a mess right now but I couldn’t care anymore. “I also called for, uh, Roscoe. Expect his presence in a bit, I’ll just get something from my room.”Harley’s POVEverything was a mess around the pack. I heard Jacob was scolding his staff and throwing things everywhere. Brent told me, of course. He’d been snooping about what was happening with Jake and Luce that may had caused Jacob’s nonstop tantrums over the Hall.Of course I said nothing. I promised Lucianna I wouldn’t tell a soul about Jacob losing his control of his wolf
Jacob’s POVI once again looked at the corpse, it was shredded into pieces. It’s skull was crushed, bones torned apart and cracked. There was blood everywhere, from the ground up to the trees. The body was divided into four pieces and the head was retrieved up the branch of a tree.“Please forgive me, Alpha Jacob.” said Jordan. One of the council, head of trackers that also conduct the investigation. “I failed to distinguish the entity of the corpse, Alpha.” he bowed and the rest of his team bowed as well. There was no question to why they failed. The core of the corpse was gone, making it hard to distinguish it. Without the core--its heart-- a werewolf wouldn’t shift back to human. No one would know if it was a werewolf or a forest wolf. But I knew. The moment I arrived, the air whispered to my ears. The smell of death lingered in my nose. And the howl of a werewolf called my Alpha wolf. The corpse was a shape-shifter like us. Definitely a rogue because there was no distinguished pac
