Penelope’s POV

I sat curled on the oversized couch at Iron Mountain pack house, Debbie pressed against my side. After weeks of concrete cells and silver restraints, being home felt surreal-like emerging from a nightmare into a world I’d forgotten existed.

Dad paced by the stone fireplace, his phone pressed to his ear as he spoke in urgent, clipped tones.

Yes, I understand the timeline. We’ll be there within the hour.”

“What’s happening now?” I asked when he hung up, anxiety immediately tightening my chest.

“The investigation team wants to meet with us immediately. They have significant updates about the evidence tampering allegations.”

Julian knocked on the front door before letting himself in, carrying a thick leather folder and his laptop case. His usually composed demeanour seemed strained around the edges.

“Sorry I’m late,” he said, settling his materials on the coffee table. “I have a…source. There have been major developments, apparently.”

“What kind of developments?”

Dominic’s POVI slammed the front door harder than necessary, shaking the hinges as I returned from another sixteen-hour patrol. Three days since Kelsey’s sentencing, and the packhouse felt like foreign territory—hostile and uncomfortable despite being my ancestral home.Guards nodded respectfully as I passed. They weren’t just monitoring Kelsey’s house arrest; they were protecting me from murdering her in her sleep. The eastern wing light still burned despite the late hour. Kelsey moved through those rooms like a ghost—present but not participating in household life. Alexander’s cries came from the nursery upstairs, a sound that normally drew me immediately.Tonight, Nick’s voice answered just as I made my way to the nursery.“There’s my little prince,” he crooned, his tone paternal and comfortable. “I’ve got you.”I froze at the bottom of the stairs, listening. Nick spent increasing time here, ostensibly upgrading security systems for Kelsey’s monitoring but spending suspicious amoun

Kelsey’s POVMy legs wouldn’t stop shaking. I sat alone before the full Council, wearing the simple gray dress Nick told me would make me look appropriately remorseful. The bruises on my throat had faded to yellowish smudges, barely visible beneath my makeup.Elder Francis returned to his position, looking far older than when he’d exonerated Penelope ten minutes earlier.“Kelsey of Darkwood Pack,” he announced formally. “You face charges of evidence tampering, perjury before this Council, and conspiracy against an Alpha Female.”My mouth went dry. Each charge carried potential sentences of years—decades when combined. Alexander would grow up without me if they imposed maximum penalties.“How do you respond to these charges?”“Guilty,” I whispered, remembering what Nick had advised me. My damaged throat made my voice raspy. “I’m deeply sorry for my actions.”Alpha Mark leaned forward from the northern delegation. “The Council acknowledges your confession saved considerable resources in

Penelope’s POVThe Council chamber before me was packed with every Alpha, delegation representative, and journalist they could squeeze between the ancient stone walls. I straightened my spine despite trembling legs, my red dress feeling too bright under hundreds of staring eyes.Elder Francis struck his ceremonial staff against marble, silencing every murmur.“This emergency session will address grievous errors in our justice system,” he announced. “The Council acknowledges a terrible miscarriage of justice has occurred.”Dad squeezed my arm beside me, his fingers steadying me as Francis continued.“Based on forensic evidence and a new testimony, we officially declare Luna Sophia’s death an accident resulting from structural failure.”The crowd erupted—some voices shouting approval, others arguing against the reversal. Francis banged his staff repeatedly until silence returned.“Furthermore, evidence confirms deliberate tampering at the crime scene and willful perjury during trial proc

Kelsey’s POVThe pack house door closed behind Dominic. His final words to me still echoed through the empty hall: “Don’t. Don’t speak to me. Don’t look at me. Don’t even breathe too loudly.”My legs gave out completely. I landed hard on the cold marble floor with a thud that sent pain shooting up my spine. My throat burned where his fingers had nearly crushed my windpipe, each swallow feeling like razors dragging down my throat. The bruises were already forming—dark purple evidence of how close I’d come to death in my own home.Nick stood across the hall, watching me with an expression I’d never seen before.Gone was the helpful security advisor, the man who’d coached me through what I’d say to Dominic while he was in the nursery and promised to protect my secrets.“Well,” he said quietly. “That was closer than I expected.”“Thank you,” I gasped, my voice barely a whisper. “You saved my life. If you hadn’t arrived when you did—”“If I hadn’t arrived when I did, what?” he interrupted,

Dominic’s POVI came back downstairs carrying Alexander, who had finally calmed down in my arms. Nick had helped Kelsey to a chair, and she was holding a glass of water with one shaking hand, the other still rubbing at her throat.“Can she talk?” I asked.“Her voice is rough, but yes,” Nick said, studying her throat. “The windpipe isn’t crushed. She’ll recover.”Kelsey looked at me with terrified eyes, flinching when I moved closer. “Dominic, please. I can explain everything that happened.”“You can start by telling the truth about framing Penelope.”“I…” She swallowed hard, wincing at the pain. “I made mistakes in my testimony. The trauma, the shock of witnessing what I thought I saw—”“Stop.” Nick held up his hand, cutting her off. “There’s no point lying anymore. Not after what just happened.”He turned to me. “There are things you need to know about that night. Things Kelsey just confessed to me that she was too afraid to share publicly.”“What things?”“The truth about how Sophia
