ONYX'S POV:
We're just driving into the gate when we see a lady being pulled towards the palace gates by the guards. Hazel also cranes her neck to see who it is but she says nothing.
I recognized her immediately. "Selah?" Then I tap the driver. "Stop driving! Park immediately!"
Wounding my glass down, I see that she's really angry and I just hope it's not my mother's command. I'll be livid with them.
"Onyx!" She calls out loudly. "Look what your mother made these retards do to me!"
The driver finally halts and I quickly step down from the car.
"Selah, why are you here?" I ask as soon as I get to where Selah is, standing with the guards still holding her arms tightly. "Let her go," command and immediately, she is released.
Selah moves away from them and rushes towards me to hold my arm.
"Why are you here?" I ask again.
"Firstly, I find it offensive that you would ask me why I am here. Secondly, I came here to talk to you about something,"
"What might that be?" I ask, looking back at the car to see that Hazel already stepped down and went into the palace.
"We can not talk about it in the presence of these people," She replies and looks at my guards with disdain. Selah had never really liked anyone apart from me and my sister.
"Alright, then. My study it is,"
As we both walk into the palace, she holds my hand like she's my Luna and honestly, it's starting to feel strange right now. I notice that my subjects are looking at us both in wonder and it feels quite awkward. But trust Selah not to care.
"Your mother might be waiting for me to send me back. Remember you're the Alpha and no one can tell you what to do, even your mother,"
"Don't speak about my mother in that manner,"
"Why? She hates me. She hates anything relating to me and she reminds me all the damn time. How am I not going to speak about her in that manner?"
"She's my mother, Selah. You can talk about her to yourself or someone else but don't repeat it to me,"
Selah suddenly stops walking. She slips her hand away and when I turn to see her, she's standing defiantly with her arms folded.
"Can we go to my study?" I say in a tired tone. "I don't have the strength for your dramatics today. Let's just go and talk in my study,"
Then I turn to walk away, not minding if she's following me or not but when I get to my study and open it, she's behind me. I lock the door and watch her go to take a seat on my swivel chair. She places her booted foot on the desk.
"What is it you want to talk about, Selah?" I ask while moving to her. Her gown rides up and I use this opportunity to grab her legs while rubbing it in slow motion and slipping my hands under her gown.
"What's going on?" She asks.
I raise my brows in confusion. "What's happening? I don't get what you're saying."
"We don't talk like we used to, you don't even touch me that much before you move to fucking me like you want me out of your room. Back in the days, we used to make love but all we do now is have sex. And you're always asking me questions like I am not wanted here. You're making me feel unwanted."
I am honestly confused about what she's saying but I know what to tell her to stop talking about this. "You know that's not true. You're just overthinking everything."
Selah snatches her leg from my hand and throws it to the floor. "That's not true! You are always in a hurry with me. You're starting to grow a soft spot for that woman, aren't you?!"
"You're saying things that aren't true. You know how much I hate and detest Hazel."
"Oh, you now call her by her name?" Selah says and stands to her feet. Her eyes are blazing and she's really angry. "What's going to be next? Apologize to her and discard me out of your life?"
Sighing, I walk close to her and pull her to me. She struggles to be free from my hold to no avail.
My voice reduces to a whisper. "Selah, nothing has changed. I am now the Alpha of the Blue moon pack, you know? I have much more responsibilities than when I was just the heir apparent and I don't have so much tone anymore. Try and understand where I am coming from. Nothing has changed."
"But you took Hazel out on a date, didn't you? Why are you lying to me?" Selah says and bursts into tears.
I frown in confusion. "Did my mother tell you that?"
"Some maid said the same thing. She also talked about me being irrelevant in the future as you would discard me. Do you know how it made me feel?!" Selah cried out.
"I'll speak to my mother and tell her to stay out of our business," I assure her. "And who's the maid who told you that? Can you recognize her face?"
Selah nods. "Yes, I can. She served us food one time in the dining room."
"While leaving, we'd go to the kitchen and you'd point her out. She'll learn her lesson the hard way."
HAZEL'S POV:
I felt my heart wrench the moment Onyx and Selah walked into the Palace salon holding their hands. They both take a seat on the settee while laughing.
I had come here to have peace of mind but they were here now and I don't think I can take it. Rising to my feet, I make my way towards the exit.
"And where is she headed to?"
I can recognize her voice anywhere. I mean, why would it be hard to recognize the voice of the woman who has done nothing but torment me?
Turning, I look straight into her eyes without fear. "For someone you hate so much, you put your nose a lot in my business,"
Selah sighs and stands to her feet. "The only reason I do that is because you're with Onyx and he belongs to me. I'd always be in your business. You might wake up one day and decide to poison him,"
I chuckle. "If I could do it, I would have done it a long time ago.."
Onyx frowns and Selah bursts Into laughter and turns to look at Onyx.
"I told you she's after your life. I told you to be careful, didn't I? Can you hear what she's saying?"
My heart skips a bit as I wonder how he's going to react but he just sits there, watching with a dirty smile on his face. A smile of revenge and I know my punishment would come together whenever he deems so.
"Leave her be, Selah. She's not worth the stress or your time. Come back to me."
Huffing, I leave her standing there. The next place I decide to go to I'd the garden. That's where I get peace of mind apart from my room.
There's a stone seat under an oak tree which I usually spend the moments of my day, daydreaming and thinking about my life without Onyx with it.
Seems fair enough.
Taking a seat, I remember that I haven't seen him in weeks. I have missed him but Onyx doesn't even let him visit me. I always feel like I am in a prison.
Sighing, I lean back against the stone chair and close my eyes, soaking in the sun.
"You're always here," I hear a male voice and my eyes fly open as I jump to my feet.
When I see it's Earl, my hand goes to my chest and I sigh in relief. "You scared me!"
Earls laughs and takes a seat while I join him. "I'm sorry. It wasn't in my intentions to actually scare you,"
"I understand. How have you been?" I ask.
"Good as you can see," Earl says and spreads his arm wife. "I heard that you went to the meeting with Onyx."
I nod. "Yes, I did,"
"Then why are you back by this time?"
"Well, something happened and Onyx decided that it was time for us to leave,"
Earl looks at my dress for the first time. "How many minutes ago did yuh guys return?"
"Twenty?"
"Don't tell me you went there with this dress?" Earl says in an angry tone. "Don't tell me Onyx made you wear this."
"I don't have nice dresses and this was the nicest I could find in my closet,"
"Onyx could have gotten you a nice dress. Fucking hell! What went down back there?"
Smiling, I lower my head and begin to fiddle with my dress. "A lot actually happened but I would not want to talk about it now. It's in the past and I want to move on from it."
EARL'S POV: I don't know what to tell Onyx. He's as stubborn as an ox and would listen to no one. I guess only time would make him listen and as I sat beside his Luna, one of the most beautiful women I have come across, I decided that I would do something drastic. But for now, I need to listen to Hazel. "You're worth more than this. Can't you leave him?" Hazel whips her head to look at me. There's fire in her eyes. "Do you think I don't want to? If I leave him, he'll find me. He'd scour the corners of the earth in search of me. I can't run away from him. That's what's most depressing!" Hazel cried out and bent her head. "He doesn't know how much he has hurt me. I have never been treated this bad my whole life as it is new to me. I hate it, I want to run away from it but I know I can't. I only have to endure and hope that someday, something changes or maybe I can get used to it," While she speaks, I listen to her and my heart goes out to her. I can feel my
ONYX'S POV; "Let's go to your room," Selah whines as she gets on top of me. "But we're fine here." I say, slightly pushing her off me. She gets off me in anger and glares at me. "Find where anyone can come in?" "I'm really not in the mood, Selah," Onyx said. He was shocked that he had actually said that. He had never not been in the mood with Selah and this was strange. He looked at her to see that she was already frowning and getting on her feet. "I should leave, then," She says. Grabbing her by the arm, I stop her from moving and she tries to be free from my hold to no avail. "You're not leaving." "Why?" Selah queried. "You won't even touch me and now, you don't want me to go either!" "Calm down, Selah. Sex isn't the only thing we should be having, should it? There are other things to do. Like have conversations, take a walk or even play games," Selah is staring at me in confusion. "What are you saying? Conversations, walks, games?" She bursts
HAZEL'S POV: I thought Selah left this afternoon? What's she still doing here by this time? I'm not moved by the way she looks at me as she proceeds into the palace. "I really hate her," Kiara spat. "She makes me want to murder," I burst into laughter. "Hey! Kiara, you don't have to sound like that." "I don't really care. She's so shameless. She should be busy searching for her mate but she's here rubbing her body against the King. How shameful." "Calm down, Kiara. It's not that deep," We're standing outside the gates now and she's glaring at me. "It's not that deep?!" She bursts into laughter. "You must be really dumb to think that it's not that deep. Someone is trying to take your place in Onyx's life and you're saying it's not that deep?" "I thought you hated Onyx? Aren't you the one asking me to leave him? Why are you mad that I'm not doing anything about it? Cut me some slack, Kiara. I am already receiving so much pressure from being the King's
SELAH'S POV: "She was able to bribe the priest to announce someone else as his mate." I laugh, shaking my head. "I don't believe that the Priest would collect s bribe," Stella said, looking very doubtful. "He's a very transparent man," "Like I said, they'll show you what they want you to see and hide what they don't want you to see. While all these were happening, Onyx was informing me about it and I thought he was on my side. He made a promise to me that he would never let their plans come to fruition. Look at things now? He's married to Hazel, a lady from the woods. Hazel was the one who shot an arrow at Cherry. That's why the sweet girl has been on the sick bed for almost two months and nothing is being done!" "The Dowager Queen doesn't care enough for her daughter. In her quest not to make me part of the family, she has wreaked a lot of havoc and I can't even stand to watch it. It's terrible!" "On the day that it was announced that Hazel was his mate, I wa
ONYX'S POV: The next morning, I woke up to see my mother standing in my room. For a moment, I am confused as to why she's in my room. She rarely comes to my room when I am asleep. She did that a long time ago when I was still young so seeing her here at this time has me wondering why. "What are you doing in my room, mother?" "A good morning to you too, Onyx." She says sternly. Sitting up, I stretch and yawn before going to my window to open the curtains. It's a brand new day and I don't know what it holds for me. "Were you aware that the priest came?" Frowning, I turn to look at her. The priest rarely ever comes here. The last time he was here, it was for my coronation. "No, I wasn't. When did he come?" "This morning." She replies and goes to take a seat in front of my work desk. "I was in the sunroom with your father and your wife when he came," I wrinkle my nose at the way she addresses Hazel as my wife. "Did he state the reason why he was here
HAZEL'S POV; While we are still talking, the Queen comes into the sun room. We both turn our heads to see that she looks upset. "What's wrong, honey?" The King asks. Taking a seat, she sighs. "It's Onyx. He doesn't even believe what I said." "What did you tell him?" "Everything the priest said. The first thing he did was accuse Hazel. He thought she might be the one to cause all the trouble but I told him it was a lie! Why would Hazel be the first person to come to his mind?" "He hates her. What do you expect? No matter how good she is, he is blinded. He's going to regret all he's doing to her now," They're talking like I'm not here and somehow, it makes me feel left out. But I know they're talking about me for my own good. "Selah is the only person who would do that. But the question now is, how is she going to?" The King says. The Queen laughs. "This is exactly what I told him. Guess what he said? He said Selah can't hurt a fly. He said a
SELAH'S POV: Today's Saturday and I know it's going to be quite a busy day for me as I'll be going to see Stella and also preparing what I'll use for the task ahead of us. I find my father in the kitchen. He's having his morning cup of coffee while reading through a news bulletin. "Good morning, Dad," I say while going to the fridge to get a carton of milk flavored with plasma. It's my favorite as it contains a little element of blood. He looks up at me and is silent for a while. "Where were you for the whole of yesterday? You got home late at night, why?" Going over to the cabinet, I pull it open and extract a packet of blood meal. I take out a bowl from the dish rack and pour out the blood cereal into it. The milk comes next. "I was at the palace," "I have warned you several times to stay away from the palace. Onyx is no longer your boyfriend and he is married to his mate. Don't you ever listen?" I place the carton of milk on the marble counter
SELAH'S POV: Stella came, after all. Even with the confidence I had that the money I had given her would make her feel indebted to me, there was still an atom of doubt in me as I drove to this cake shop. I thought about the possibility of Stella changing her mind and deciding not to come or reporting my plans to the Queen so she could get a better reward and still hold onto my money. Seeing her now, a wave of relief washes over me. My father would think I was meeting a man and even if he saw me here with her, he would freak out a bit, thinking I might be into women but he'll have to calm down and accept me the way I am. I wave at her and when she sees me, she smiles stiffly and begins to come my way. The cake shop is empty. That's why I chose this place. Knowing fully well that no one would be here by this time of the day, it would be easy for us to converse freely without having to bother about anyone watching us. I mean, if the odds are against us and she
