AN AFFAIR WITH THE ALPHA;001

Power?

A very underrated, yet overrated shit at the same time.

After more than twenty-eight years of her life, Lyra is yet to decipher the force behind this single word.

In this world- or at least the Part pf the world she knew- he who has power possesses a very great thing.

He with the most power has the highest standing authority.

But Layla had also learnt that asides this great wealth, fear and authority that comes from it, power also comes with a load of danger.

Because it was something that everyone wanted, and most people were ready to do anything to get a taste of power, even if it meant shedding innocent blood.

This was one reason her mother had tried as much as possible to keep her special capabilities hidden since they found out that she was more than just a werewolf.

Not because it was a taboo or anything.

But then a hybrid has never been born before in the history of werewolves.

So, there was no specific rule which said that she was a taboo or anything, but her mother understood and had drilled into her ‘the selfish nature of man’.

She knew how much in danger she would be if her powers weren’t controlled and hidden.

Especially now that three of the strongest packs were at war.

War…

Lyra released a full shiver, as she walked deeper into the bushes.

She wondered what was wrong with those three egomaniacs who were alphas. Because of their stupid hunger for power and dominion, they were hurting and killing innocent citizens.

Beyond their ego, could they not value the lives of the people in their packs, stop with the war and stay satisfied with what they had?

“How possible would that even be?” Lyra murmured.

She thought about the two injured kids in her house right now and shook her head.

If she had not found them in the bush a few days ago, those kids would have been wasted by now.

Kids!

Innocent children caught in the whirlwind of war caused by the leaders who should have taken their safety as their priority.

She shook her head and stopped before a patch of purple flowers.

Just what she was looking for.

She picked some, tossed them into the little basket she had in hand and made her way back.

But just as she was about to make a turn, she heard a very painful grunt, coming from somewhere very far away in the same bush.

Curse her hearings.

She tried to ignore it, but then the grunt came again, very low like it was muffled.

She strained her ears and listened more attentively, and heard whispers.

“Come on. Your father thinks he’s all mighty, doesn’t he? Open wide, let me pop that cherry of yours” A male voice growled.

Lyra’s stomach growled when she realized what was happening, and without a second thought she clutched her purse tighter and ran at a speed that was not normal for a mere werewolf.

She kept her ears open, following the low noises, brushing past trees and patches of grasses till she stopped.

And what she saw before her had her stomach turning in rage and disgust.

A girl who could not be older than 19, was lying on the grass, very naked, with what looked like nail scratches all-over her body.

Her hands and legs were restrained with thick ropes and mouth muffled with a piece of rag.

And then there were six muscular men standing around her, oblivious of Lyra's presence.

One of them was pulling down his shorts and stepping in between her legs.

They looked like they were from the crescent pack. Lyra could tell from the tattoo on the naked one’s butt.

Go figure. It was only those bloody idiots who could stoop this low.

“Let her go” She said, leaning against one of the trees beside her, arms folded innocently.

They all turned around at the sound of her voice, and the girl released a muffled scream when she saw Lora, her eyes brimming with tears.

“Shut the fuck up” One of the men shouted then turned back to Lora.

“Great. Another Turbo bitch” Another murmured with a sneer. “Even better”

‘Do you guys often exercise your He-man capabilities by preying on innocent girls? What on earth happened to being a real man?”

Lora knew she was pushing them. Even if she turns there is no way she could actually hold them all off at once.

But was she gonna sit back and let more innocent people be caught up in this madness because of her fear?

No, she really wasn’t gonna do that.

“How about we actually tear you apart limb by limb, and send the pieces of your body to that useless Alpha of yours? That should send a message across”

“You are welcome to try” She shrugged and kept her very calm pose.

Two of the men charged towards her, face red in anger.

Lyra inhaled sharply “Ventos”

She whispered with a flick of her hand, and the two were blown off their feet by a sudden strong wing and fell against a tree.

The other four's eyes widened in horror.

“What the fuck are you?”

‘Dolore”  She whispered again, as they started walking towards her with bared teeth.

Suddenly they stopped in their tracks and screamed in agony, grabbing their necks.

Oh, this was just too much fun...

One of the first two she had attacked later, regained his composure and with red eyes turned into his wolf worm. Then before Lyra could blink, he launched into the air towards her, but she was faster.

She swiftly moved away, seconds before he could make impact, and pushed forth her hands facing him.

Her insides warmed in delight when the wolf started howling in pain, and the sounds of his bones breaking and breaking were like music to her ears.

She didn’t stop till he was just lying lifeless on the floor.

Then she walked towards the girl and untied her.

“Thank you so so much” She sobbed her eyes still darting around on the lifeless bodies lying on the floor.

“Are they dead?” She asked Lyra, raising her eyes.

“They won’t be bothering anyone again. I made sure of theta.

She nodded and sniffed. Lyra took a moment to inspect her bruises and sighed in relief when she saw the wounds already healing themselves.

A fast healer.

“How on earth did they get you and who are you?”

“I was running, and there were traps, but I didn’t notice so” She cut off with a shudder wrapping her arms around her naked body.

“It's okay. You are fine now.”

Lyra shrugged off her coat and covered her with it.

“You have to go home. I have to clear off this bodies”

“Who are you? What are you? I’ve never seen you around before. And I know you are a werewolf; I can smell it.” She lifted her blue eyes into Lyra’s, “But somehow you can do magic. What are you? Some sort of with?”

Lyra grinned, “You can say that.”

Later, much later when she gets home, she would think about the mistake she just made, but for now she would not think about it. For the first time ever, she saved someone with her powers. And it felt a whole lot better.

So good that she would do it over and over again.

What was the point of hiding a gift just because she was afraid?

“You can find your way back home, right?”

“Of course.” The girl responded, rolling her eyes. “I’m not a child. I know every inch on…….”

“Ava!!!” a deep male voice called behind Lyra interrupting the girl and making her jump.

Ava’s face brightened with a smile, as she stared behind Lyra.

“Lex!! Oh my God. How did you find me?”

Lyra didn’t have to turn to see who the newcomer was. In a split second he was brushing past her crouching on his knees and hugging the girl tightly.

“I was worried sick. Sasha informed me, and I was scared. What did those bastards do to you?”

Whoever this very muscular man, with a broad back and shoulders was, he didn’t even notice or acknowledge Lyra’s presence, as he scanned Ava’s body all over.

“I’m fine Lex. They didn’t do much. Can’t you see? She saved my life.”

Lyra wondered what relationship they had. Was he her lover or what?

But judging from this man’s physique, he was a little too old for Ava, wasn’t he?

But then when he slowly stood up, looking around at the bodies, till he turned to face Lyra, she saw that she couldn’t be so wrong.

This man was a splitting older male version of Ava.

His blue eyes, exactly like Ava’s were creased with worries and burning with rage.

And his black hair was ruffled, like his white shirt.

Obviously, he had been very worried about Ava.

Lyra’s heart skipped when his eyes bore intensely into hers.

His face was hard as stone as he stared at Lyra in question.

“Who on earth are you?” He growled.

“My name is Lyra LeBron.” She said tilting up her chin.

“And you?”

The man frowned deeply at the question, raising his brow.

There was something about this man standing before her that Lyra found very intriguing.

She could tell that he wasn’t any ordinary werewolf.

From the way he posed himself, she could feel waves of authority and power exuding from him.

“If you were a member of this pack, you would know exactly who I was. So, who the fuck are you?”

Lyra frowned, crossed her arms and stepped closer to him.

“I am a member of the pack. What are you? The Alpha?”

“Uhm…” Ava murmured and giggled.

The man raised a brow, and Lyra snapped her mouth shut, giving herself a mental slap.

“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t aware.”

Lyra gasped. She wasn’t surprised. She didn’t know anyone from the pack, nor did anyone knew her.

Her mother had made it a point to raise her far away from the rest of the pack. And even after she died, Lyra had lived on her own. Her house was located far away in the bush, somewhere in the middle of the three packs.

“I am a member of the pack. My dad was one of the bodyguards years ago. Martins LeBron. I just live farther away” She explained and squinted a bit when the Alpha kept staring at her intensely.

After a few more minutes, he sighed and turned to look at his sister.

“I won’t say anything to you till we get home.” Then to Lyra he asked, “Want to tell me how you took down six male werewolves without turning Lyra?”

Lyra rose at the question, and searched through her brain for an excuse that would at least sound believable.

But before she could make up her mind to just stop hiding and say the truth, Ava was already doing that for her.

“She’s a witch Lex” Ava whispered, and Lyra cringed as Lex’s eyes widened in shock.

“How’s that possible?” Lex whispered, looking her over, “I can smell the wolf on you.”

“I’ve spent twenty-eight years of my life asking the same question, trust me” Lyra replied with a smile, even though she was scared shitless because what would the revelation mean for her?

One thing was for sure. Her life was about to take a very different turn, but she wasn’t sure yet if it was for the good or bad.

“I’m a hybrid” She said finally, and despite everything, she felt something lift off her like a heavy weight from the confession.

Twenty-eight years of actually hiding what she was.

“Hybrids are just myths” Lex said, his frown deepening more.

Lyra opened her mouth to talk but didn’t know what to say. So instead she waved her hands in the air with a whisper

“Fiorire”

Then she smiled as she felt a faint brush of breeze against her cheeks and then Ava gasped.

This was one of her favorite tricks. The first one she had learnt as a child.

Lex's eyes widened and his jaw almost dropped as he looked around, staring at the different buds of flowers in the bush which were now increasing in size and then opening up, blossoming very beautifully as they turned into beautiful flowers.

Lex looked at her, mouth opened stupidly as Ava jumped and squealed happily.

“You should have seen how she took out six men at once with just a flick of her fingers,” Ava gushed.

Lex shook his head, snapping out of the shock “I have no idea how this is possible. But we need to talk about this seriously.”

“Why don’t you come back with us Lyra?” He said and touched her hand then stopped mid-sentence.

Lyra gasped at the spark of current that ran through her from the single touch, and suddenly her wolf howled and murmured slowly…

‘Mate….”

Mate? Mate?

How on earth was that possible?

She wasn’t ready in any way for a mate, neither did she imagine or expect that she would be finding one now. All she wanted to do was get herbs for the boys in her house.

Lex on his part was frowning, obviously not taking the news well.

“Did you two just….?”

“No.” Lex snapped, interrupting her, “That’s not possible. It can’t be. I’m married. I already have a mate”

Lyra never thought she could be more shocked.

Yeah.

Her life Was definitely taking a huge turn. This time she was sure that it’s a bad turn.
