Chapter 4

"We have to question Uncle Barry. That was just a wolf, so why the need of dipping bullets into yellow wolfsbane? Why dodge all our questions?" Ethan had outburst all of a sudden.

"Ethan, we have to trust Uncle Barry. Our parents trusted him enough to make him our legal guardian." Andra responded.

"That's my point, Andra. Our parents had that document declaring him our legal guardian months before they died. What? Our parents knew that they will be killed?" Andra can see that her younger brother is truly frustrated by the lack of answers to his burning questions.

It's true, and she can see it too. Their Uncle Barry is hiding something from them. It's obvious with his actions, and how quickly left the house after killing the wolf that attacked them. Even she wants to know the truth, but she also knows that they can't start doubting each other. Not when weird things are happening to them.

"Whatever. I'm heading out. Do you want anything?"

"No, I'm good. Just come back home immediately." Andra shook her head when her little brother walked out of the house.

Secretly, she was trying to call their Uncle Barry since last night. It was the first in all of Soul County's history that a wolf attack someone in their home, especially with the fact that their is no wolf in the county. Terrified would an understatement to describe how she's feeling. But, she has to keep it together.

Utilizing the opportunity that his brother is not in the house, Andra went to their parents' room. As the eldest, her mother trusted her with the knowledge of some hidden places in their house. Her young mind thought that it was cool, but now, she just realized that there's definitely something weird about their parents.

There are times that she would wake up in the middle of the night. Whenever it happens, she would quietly come down to the kitchen, only to witness her parents coming into the house. They are dressed, and obviously just arrived home. Sometimes, they were even covered in blood, or just looked dirty.

-Flashback-

It was four nights before their parents were killed. Andra woke up at three in the morning, feeling thirsty. Before going down to their kitchen, she checked up on her brother like she always did. He was already in a deep sleep. She was about to walk towards the stairs when she heard their front door.

"Someone's in the house?" She said to herself. Her first instinct was to get her parents, but then, she heard the voices downstairs.

"Are you okay, hon?" She knew that voice all too well. 'Mom?' She mouthed.

"Yeah, hon. I'm fine. That one's nasty." That's her dad's voice.

Quietly, Andra tiptoed to the stairs and peeked. She saw her mother lovingly wiping some dirt from her father's face. Her mother looks dirty too. There was a black duffel bag beside her father, and she can something black sticking out of it.

-End of Flashback-

Even though confused, she went back to her room, and never said a word about what she saw. The first hidden space she looked was the one on her closet. It's where she took her brother to hide the night their parents were murdered. The small space is already covered in dust and spider webs.

The next one she checked was the bedside table in their parents' room. There was one time when she accidentally saw her mother putting something inside it. She never saw what, but her mother told her that in case someone breaks into their home to hurt her or brother, she should run into their room and open it.

"Gun? My parents own a gun?" What she saw was 9mm. pistol. "Why is there a gun in this house?"

Question swarming in her mind multiplied. Before, she only had suspicions that there things they don't know about their parents. Now, she's certain about it. There is no denying that their parents have hidden many things from them, and they have to know everything.

"Andra? Where are you?" She's already in her room when her brother arrived. The worry in his voice is evident, and nobody can blame him. Last night's event is bound to mess with them for quiet some time.

"I'm here, Ethan!" She announced, while acting as if she's cleaning her room.

"Whoah, hey. We have housekeeping for that." Ethan exclaimed. He has never seen her sister clean their house, or cook their meal, not even once.

"I have an idea. It's Sunday, Uncle Barry is not here yet. Why don't we clean the house?" She suggested.

"Are you serious? We? Cleaning the house? Maybe, you mean we destroy the house. We don't know anything about cleaning, Andra. Since we were born, housekeeping are the ones cleaning the house."

"Well, it's not too late to learn, right?"

"Oh, God. You're serious."

Even though Ethan was not very happy about her suggestion, he still nodded after heaving a loud sigh. They started in her room. Ethan haven't noticed that Andra is not just cleaning. She was actually searching for other hiding places in her room. Once their done, they moved from room to room at the third floor of their house. Then, to the second floor, and when they reached the living room, Ethan already felt exhausted.

"Okay! Hold up. What are you doing? You're not just cleaning. You're searching for something, spill." Ethan can no longer hold it.

"I'll tell you when I see it. Just keep cleaning." Andra demanded.

"No! There's something that you're not telling me. What is it?"

"Ethan, we have keep moving! If Uncle Barry comes home, we will lose our opportunity–"

"No! I am not going to do anything until you tell me–holy freaking sh*t!"

Ethan accidentally pushed a human-sized angel statue beside the fireplace. They heard clicking sounds before the angel statue slide aside with the wall behind it, revealing a stair leading somewhere down. None of them was able to react for a full minute. Their eyes just kept shifting back forth from each other, both riddled with confusion.

"What is this place?" Ethan exclaimed while scanning the spacious room that is filled with all kinds of weird stuff.

"I have never seen these things before in my life." Andra stated with astonishment.

"Look at this, sis."

Ethan found a book, or at least he thought. But, when they turned the pages, they realized that it was no ordinary book. It was a list of the people descended from their bloodline. From the very beginning, up to their names. The book looked so old that they are not even sure if the cover was leather.

"You finally found this room." Ethan and Andra were both shocked when they both heard Barry's voice.

"You knew about this room." Andra sounded disappointed. She trusted Barry not only because their parents trusted him, but also because she thought that he would never lie to them.

"Andra, Ethan, we have so much to talk about."
