Author's POV

Emerald stepped back and looked at him bored.

"Do whatever you want, I am going home. Anyways, it's time!"

Egon was not ready to let her go yet, he was enjoying her angry reactions.

He put his foot forward, and she tripped on a colour tin.

"What the fuck?"

She cursed loudly while staring at her colour-drenched dress and hands.

Egon suppressed his laugh.

"What a mess!"

"You did it on purpose. What the hell is wrong with you?"

She growled at him.

"Are you out of your mind?"

"Well, I think you should clean this first. Before you look like a freshly painted art piece."

He chuckled.

She whined while looking at herself.

"Where?"

"Whichever room you find first!"

He stepped out of her way, and she stormed out.

Emerald used the first room she found, removing colour was hard. She was in the washroom for hours.

When she came out in a robe, she was extremely tired after rubbing herself for hours.

She huffed and threw herself on the couch, and didn't realise when she fell asleep there.

Egon opened the door and saw her knocked out on the couch. He went closer to her and saw her beautiful face, which was red due to a hot shower.

"My beautiful wild cat!"

He kissed her head and noticed that her hair was wet.

He grabbed a towel and gently dried her hair; her robe was also damp, so he changed her into his shirt and placed her on his bed.

He lay beside her, admired her whole night. It's been months since he has been able to watch her without interruption.

His heart was at peace. If it were in his control, then he would stop time and watch it like this for the rest of his life.

He slept beside her and she clung to him in sleep.

Egon frowned when she started shaking.

"Emerald?"

He looked at her worriedly.

"Please don't let me go, Egon... I can't leave without you... Please stop me... I want you!"

She was crying in her sleep.

"I am sorry, I am sorry!"

Egon realised that she was recalling her past in her dreams. He quickly pulled her in his arms and rubbed her back.

"I am here, my love... Everything is fine!"

He mumbled gently to her.

She clutched his shoulders tightly.

"You are back, please don't let me go... Please, forgive me... I never meant to hurt you, please trust me!"

She cried in her sleep.

"I trust you... I trust you, Emerald..."

He pampered her face with kisses.

He kept caressing her until she fell asleep. His heart filled with guilt when he realised what he was doing.

He stopped her from overcoming her feelings by erasing her memories. Her subconscious mind still has the trauma stored in it.

She was having episodes. He was worried that the piled-up trauma might burn out her sanity.

"No, no, no."

He shook his head.

"This needs to be stopped... I can't give her that drug anymore... It's fucking with her mind"

But she will hate you once she remembers everything again? Remember how she wanted to leave you?

His mind snapped at him.

He shook his head to clear his thoughts, his heart saw her in pain and couldn't let it happen again. He decided not to give her that medicine again.

She will remember things again. She might hate him again and will leave him again but he is ready to live with that. At least she will be alive.

This drug was supposed to erase her memories completely, but she is having nightmares, which means it's not working on her properly, and it can be dangerous. He can't play with her life anymore.

He was stroking her head when his phone rang, and he quickly answered before she woke up due to the sound.

It was Ruby.

"King, Emerald is not home yet!"

Ruby sounded worried.

"She is with me, she is not coming home tonight."

He covered her with bedsheets as she snuggled into his chest.

"Then it's fine, I thought she went somewhere else. She wasn't picking up her phone."

Ruby sounded more relaxed now.

"Ruby, does she have nightmares often?"

He questioned.

"Every single night!"

She informed.

"I once tried to inform you too, but you refused to meet me... King, she needs you... You two can't heal like this. Let her remember you, it's better for both of you."

"Stop giving her that drug. Not needed anymore!"

He ordered and disconnected the call.

"Hate me all you want, I deserve it... Maybe I'll lose you again after this, but maybe that's our destiny."

He kissed her forehead.

Emerald woke up in the morning and frowned when she found herself in bed. She remembers sleeping on the couch and not the bed.

The strong arm around her waist made her blood go cold. She quickly got up and looked at the man, terrified.

Her face visibly relaxed when she saw that it was Egon and not someone else, but then she turned mad.

"Ahhhhhh"

She screamed on his face.

Egon woke up with the jolt and started checking on her.

"Are you okay? What happened?"

He cupped her face.

Emerald looked at him, confused, like he had lost his mind.

"You bastard, what did you do with me?"

She slapped his hands away.

Egon frowned.

"What?"

She grabbed his hair and started scratching him everywhere.

"How dare you?... I am going to kill you!"

He removed her hands from his hair with much difficulty and he lost a few hairs in that process.

"Have you lost your mind?"

He quickly got out of bed while rubbing his burning scalp.

She got up furiously and threw a pillow at him.

"What are you doing in my bed? How dare you change my clothes?"

She growled at him.

"You accused me of trying to get in your bed and did this?... I am going to kill you!"

Egon started running around when she grabbed the vase and chased him like a madwoman.

"Wait, it's expensive... Don't break it!"

"Fuck you! Fuck your antiques!"

She screamed as she threw it at him and he caught it, saving it.

"You are in my room and my bed... Stop blaming me."

He said in his defence.

"How dare you change my clothes? You saw me naked, ahhhh!"

She threw pillows at him.

"I didn't see you naked. My eyes were closed."

He swore.

"You are lying, you saw everything..."

She screamed at him.

He shook his head.

"No, trust me!"

"You did, you saw a mole on my right boob. Buttons were open."

She accused.

"Rubbish, all buttons are closed... And you have a mole on the left boob, not the right."

He mocked.

She gasped.

"See! You pervert... I will kill you!"

She attacked him again, and this time he grabbed her hands, locked them behind her back and pulled her in a dominating kiss, making her go still.

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di
